nice 328 gtb

Nice looking car; the GTB is nice in black. Assuming it's properly represented, serviced competently, and truly has no stories, 42.5k is not out of line, at least not if it were a GTS. LOL, this same car would have a 50k asking price at a dealer (GTS). Not sure how the GTB factors into things. Despite its rarity next to the GTS, my research suggested that they fetched lower prices in general.

Man the 328 is a gorgeous car. Just washed mine today .

I'm confused. The car can be seen in San Diego, but is being sold out of Boulder, CO?

 

The GTB accounted for about 7% of all US 328s, so they are rare. However as has been observed by others, the GTBs have generally been better cared for than GTSs by their owners and you will see a disproportionate number in Concours. There are definitely GTB fanatics (me included) and they handle better and (to me) look better. If the car is in at least #2 condition, the price is right. For those in the market I know of one in Maryland that is red with 11,000 miles and when I last saw it with 6,000 miles could have easily won platinum at Cavallino. The owner is asking $55,000, which is reasonable I think. For reasons I dont understand the GTS is worth more generally.

 

If that Maryland car is the one I think it is, it has been more than five years since it had a major service. You'd have to add about $5,000 to the final cost of the vehicle.

 

Also, inquire about clutch history. Seems the clutches wear out depending on operator 15-30k miles or so...

Add another 2k if thats needed.

 

FYI

This car was in FML in May at 36,500. Located in FL. Soon afterward it was on Auto Trader by a different dealer at a little higher price. Last month at a car show I struck up a conversation with a local guy who was looking over my GTB really hard. He said he was trying to find a black GTB but settled for a GTS. He mentioned he had checked the FL car and said it was really rough or beat. Now it has migrated to San Diego. Also, this car is mettalic black which does not show as well as regular black.

Actually, it is easier to sell GTB's than GTS's because they are rare. After extensive research, I estimate about 125 were sold in the US. In the past 30 months, I have had 4 or 5 people ask me if I would sell the car, usually at shows or track events. A couple of weeks ago, a fellow Fchatter inquired if I would sell it. None of the other 5 Fcars I had generated this kind of interest. Although price guides say they are worth less than GTS's, actual asking prices and, more importantly, actual sales suggest they are worth the same.

A couple of different dealers have told me that in the early 90's, you could not give away a GTB. I suspect things began to change when the 355 came out and coupes sold very well. Even today, about 1/4 of 360 sales are coupes.

I have a GTB, and greatly prefer it to the GTS. And I paid more to get a particular GTB because of the B. The GTBs are very rare (mine, is a 1989; in that year they only made about 37 GTBs). There is definately a GTB following. There has been the apperance in the past that the GTB was worth less than the GTS. However, in my experience the fact they are very rare, combined with the following, makes the values difference a wash. I'd never value my GTB lower than a comparable GTS.

 

I agree, the rarity in production would now tend to value the B over the S.
Exception would be early 76 -77s which were ALL Bs.....

very nice! I love the 308 first as a GTB then the GTS, the black on the car looks stunning! Wish i could see it in person, i really like the look of that car. $42,500 sounds decent enough?

 

I'm 6' 3" and clear by 1".
