Recently, we had a thread about the trials and tribulations of "likeyoudontknow" and Stebro. Seems he felt ripped off by the failure of this company to deliver what was promised.

So, about a week ago I spot a listing on ebay for a Dino Manual, drop him an email and get the following responses. First I wrote:

    "To: <[email protected]>
Subject: Ferrari Service Owners Manual 246 Dino GT 1971 to 1974 Item number: 7909712114 on ebay.
    Date: Wed, 7 Jul 2004 20:11:31 -0400

Which manual are you selling, exactly?

The one provided with the car, that I can download from Ferrari, or the actual service manual used by the dealer to work on the car, or some other variant?

How many pages, is this a PDF, or actual hard copy?

Been following your trials and tribulations with Stebro on FerrariChat.com, hope that worked out ok.

    Dave M.

    He replied:

"Selling Ferrari Service Owners Manual 246 Dino GT 1971 to 1974, 130 color pages....

Thanks, but Strebro ripped me off for $1300.00, dont ever use them...

If this is what you are lookinf for, its a great deal....and rare....

    Thanks,

    Randall"

HE SENT ME A FRIGGIN' PDF on a CD. AND NOW WON'T ANSWER HIS EMAILS.

I've explained that I can download the manual from Ferrari, don't need his help for that, and that he promised the 130 page manual. My questions were quite specific.

So, Randall Gilbert, Pittsburgh, PA, what have you to say for yourself?

Hmmmm... I guess righteous indignation only works for him, and there's no getting any satisfaction from him on this.

Hopefully, Paypal will provide some relief.

So, all you guys who thought "likeyoudontknow" is a good guy ripped off by Stebro, maybe a word or caution should be applied to his tale of woe.

    Cause I do know now.

    Dave

Sorry to hear of your situation. I'd be pissed getting that too. Was there any kind of pic of what he claimed the manual looked like? You're right, it makes all the Stebro story suspect. Or, the Stebro situation was a pay back for him.

I hope you get it all sorted out and you get your money back.

    I'll chime in too...

I went back and forth with this guy/gal about brake pads for my car. I kept getting answers like "whatever item you need, I'll find it -- and guarantee it'll be cheaper than anywhere else". When I finally pressed him on exact part numbers, prices and shipping, suddenly the email thread died.

I do believe he actually has/ownes/loves his 348, but I'm not convinced that he runs a legitimate business. I hope he reads this thread and proves me wrong.

Not gonna happen. He's all talk, no action.

Paypal told me I'm out of luck, too. Only guarantee that something will ship to you, not that it is what you ordered.

Now that's a guarantee that "likeyoudontknow" would be proud of, it's about as good as his.

Didn't you notice he never answered your question in your original email?

Sorry you got ripped off, but it sounds like he can just say that he respresented what he sold you properly. He was playing word games with you.

Seemed a little "flaky" to me also. "likeyoudontknow" contacted me about some 348 test pipes I have, wanting to trade for an assortment of fairly useful stuff, but he was very evasive about the originality of the manuals he offered ...."copies of personal original duplicates"..... wtf??

    I'm glad I passed.

"Selling Ferrari Service Owners Manual 246 Dino GT 1971 to 1974, 130 color pages...."

There are no pages color or otherwise, in a PDF.

    From Websters:

    "page ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pj) n.

A leaf or one side of a leaf, as of a book, letter, newspaper, or manuscript: tore a page from the book.
The writing or printing on one side of a leaf.
The type set for printing one side of a leaf. "

Printed matter has pages. Ripoff plain and simple.

"If this is what you are lookinf for, its a great deal....and rare...."

A downloadable PDF is not "rare".

    there's no semantics issue here.

Oh, and no, Pittsburgh is on the other side of the state 5+ HRS away.

I know what you are saying - I'm just saying you asked was it a PDF or a hard copy - to which he answered neither. He stuck with the "pages" thing - and certainly there are "pages" in a PDF.

    I was certainly a rip-off.

he's selling other manuals also, must have downloaded all of them from owners ferrari site. I saw his ad on Ebay for them and he appeared to be a con to me saying just enough truth with evasive lies to cover his as5, he also selling them for high prices so you think they are the real thing, this guy sounds like a real POS.

This sounds like fraud to me, I wonder how the owners ferrari site would like it if they found out he is selling their pdf manuals

I had the same thing happen with the famous Al Cosentino many years ago, when he was selling shop manuals.

Me: "Is that an original factory shop manual, or a copy?"
    Al: "It's an original"

He sent me a crappy Xerox copy.

I've had a couple complaints about him and when I checked in with him, he dodged my questions and even stopped responding. Seems like he's been getting some free promotion through FC working the back rooms. Looks like someone else we need to black list.

    Buyer beware.

Sorry to hear of your experience.....

Ripping people off is never acceptable and to do that to a fellow F-chat member is like "eating your own youngs". That's so wrong.

I'd say we pretty much already have.

He's not going to pop back up here, at least not as "likeyoudontknow". He'll probably turn back up as "youshouldknowbetter" or "takeyouforarube" or maybe "justaplainoldripoff".

Let him be, he's his own worst enemy, and at least now, we all know what he's up to.

If you want to really have fun, contact Ferrari, tell him someone is selling the electronic manuals off of their site and have their lawyers go after him.

Ah, the power of copyright laws.

Even better, the process can probably be started with one phone call.

I have received horribly misrepresented items (guitars) on ebay in the past. Never had to eat any big $$ (other than return shipping costs) because I always used a credit card when paying with paypal.

You will get your money back, your cc company will duke it out with paypal, and paypal will go after the scumbag merchant.
