lol, trust me, it's a replica. I still take that as a compliment though guys! Euro Works is the mfgr of my replica. I bought it used but I believe Euro Works put the car together too. Here's the company and notice they do make another car called the "ATTACK" that may be apealing to some of you that don't like replicas: http://www.euroworksltd.com/

    Here's another C/T replica made by Euro-Works: http://www.lambocars.com/framed/countach/euroworks.htm

Attached is a few pictures of my car next to a real black C/T at a local car show, along with my very good Viper friends :). Also, there's a shot of the rear end and you can see there is no exhaust grill on the lower portion. I believe his is a 1987 but I may be wrong. The Bull badge on the front of mine is set up too high and needs to be a little closer towards the nose. My wheels also have a smaller lip around the axel area but thats the only difference I noticed there. The doors didn't go up as high. Otherwise, I think mine sat a little lower than his and a few minor cosmetic differences. Of course, he had an extra 6 cylinders, so his is about 2 seconds faster than mine in the 1/4 mile, lol.

When I found the Fiero/Countach kit car that I mentioned earlier in the thread, the first thing that I noticed were the correct style wheels. Those Countach wheels have a concave look to them and this kit car had identical looking wheels. I don't know if they were as wide as the originals were, but somebody must have made repro wheels just like them.

    Nice pics and links, thanks!
Only when it's right beside the original can I see any differences, excellent!
Not a cheap kit, that's for sure! There must be only 2 or 3 companies making such high quality replicas, I've sure seen a lot of crap out there.
So, was the Countach owner upset with you beside him there?

throw some logic into your analogies...cars don't just become nothing. their value doesn't poof and disappear with no chance of repair. also, you're allowed to make back ups of your programs. they're not illegal. no one made money off them and no one lost money off them...how about instead of trying to attack me with erroneous comparisons, you try to refute some of the points myself and others have made recently?

well, that is a relief. now i won't have to fire my computer guy.

lol, that art school in detroit is teaching you well...

i'm an idiot, i can't think...blah blah blah. what you never do, is explain why. the reason is, you can't. like psk and others, you'd rather take blind pot-shots at my character, (which despite your hilarious delusions you know nothing about)than actually refute any of the points myself or others have made. this only highlights your ineptitude. once again, suspicions confirmed. please evolve.

I have a few customers of mine who own real Lambo C/T's. They also have numerous friends who have or a building replica Lambo's. These guys have absoultly zero issues with it. In fact the owners of the real cars, have helped turn wrenchs on the replica's and have offered their personal cars for measuring and photo's so the replica's can be a close to accurate as possiable.

I have met one of fellow's personaly and his passion for the car is MORE then most owners of the real thig is. If anybody deserves a real Lambo it would be this guy. He could afford to buy the real deal, but he does not want to have to constantly worry about breaking expensive parts. He wants to drive with peice of mind and knowing that if anything broke, most parts are just a phone call and a 10 minute drive away. He also does not want to have to deal with artificaly(sp?) high labor rates at dealers, and stupid prices for parts. He also likes the fact that he can drive a car that WILL perform better then a real C/T ever could. He is putting a killer suspension system in the car that will riavl anything on the street today. He is going all out on this car.

The only downside the entire thing for him is the fact of the engine note. He is going to go to extreme lengths to try and replicate the sound as best a possiable for a V8 engined car. He may even go too a BMW 12 cylinder if the price is right. Now there you would have an engine completely reliable, parts available, could be worked on by a BMW famlier tech (lots of those guys around) and it does not cost near as much to fix.

There is nothing wrong with building a replica as long as you do it right. You may spend big huge money on it, but in the end if done correctly and true to the original, you most times end up with a BETTER car then what the factory could produce. So what wrong with liking the way a car looks, but not how it drives and performs? Why not build car car with you favorite look, and with the handling of a modern car?

There are also many many big money collectors that own the real deal cars, but build replicas to drive around in. Have you seen some of the fantastic replicas that are out there? Most experts can't figure it out if it's real or not!!

Tom, tell your friend that he has just GOT to try the ANSA mufflers. They sound awesome!!! I have one on my GTO with it's straight 6 and it sounds way better than my 328. Way better! I also had them on my 85 Corvette and there again...AWESOME sound!!! They were standard issue on earlier Ferrari's and you'll know why when you hear them. Nice, tight and high sound. He won't need to change engines either!

I agree with the issues of peace of mind you mentioned. When I was looking to build mine I considered other cars like a 930 Turbo, etc. but I liked that I could drive the GTO anyway I liked and I'd still be cheaper no matter what breaked.

Having a replica as a stand in double kinda reminds me of the "fashion jewelry" that famous people use. Interesting parallel.

You should post a picture of your friend's C/T.

    Best!

Okay maybe I know too much about computers and accidentally left you behind.

Your post earlier talked about purchasing cheap hacked copies of MS software. That is illegal and if you are found with these packages on your computer by MS they can sue you. You stated that you replaced MS packages with these when the MS packages 'broke'. You are not legally allowed to purchase these hacked MS packages for whatever reasons.

Thus my analogy does work. You buy expensive MS package (Lamborghini Countach), MS packages goes yucky for whatever reasons (Lamborghini breaks down or requires extremely expensive service) ... you give up on genuine MS stuff (Lamborghini products) realising that they are not as good as you thought (and Lamborghini products especially back then are just great looking cars with the usual Italian lack of quality engineering) and buy the cheaper package that rips off the MS application (you buy a Lamborghini replica).

Thus you are as guilty as all the rest of us in taking advantage of cheaper copies.

Yes an original Lamborghini still has some value, but a Lamborghini with a blown or otherwise damaged motor or gearbox (especially an old model) will be heaps devalued ... and you see these sorts of cars struggling to find new owners all the time. Why?, because not many people can sink $$$$$$$$ into the Italian economy to fix the original motor ... happens to old Ferraris all the time and that is why they end up with Chev's in them.

I am positive that there have been many owners of exotic cars that have found the pleasure of them is just skin deep ... thanks to the huge running costs and laughable Italian quality. The real rich people, well they can afford to spend a years salary on a new engine/gearbox every 2 years or whatever ... but the rest of us that can almost afford such a car struggle with the maintenance costs. Replicas in this case are an option if the pull is bad enough ... it is not for me.

The replica companies are not doing anything wrong. If they were don't worry Ferrari, etc. would sue them as Ferrari did to the 250GTO maker in the USA a few years ago.

    Pete
ps: In the end all these replicas are the best advertisement for the real thing there can possibly be ... no matter how bad the replica is. They are still spreading the myth ...

A trick I have learned to make the 'rough' sounding Amercan type V8's sound more like the smoother Ferrari V8's is to install a 180 degree header on the engine. Instead of 4 cylinders on each side dumping to their repective collectors the 180 is laid out sequentially according to the firing order of the engine. This involves some spaghetti tubing but the sound is unbelievable.
    On a Chevy small block, if I remember correctly, the first 4 tubes would come from;
    Driver's #1 cylinder,
    Passenger's 2nd and 3rd cylinders,
    Drivers 4th cylinder.
These are routed to one collector. The remaining 4 to the other. You can verify this by using a plan view of the block and design according to the firing order.

If the firing order is different on an engine then of course the routing and sequence would be different.

In addition to the sound this set-up is reported to increase the scavenging effect of the exhaust flow.

I have heard this set-up on drag boats and they sound like screaming twelves.

This would be the most sure fire way to get the best sound reguardless of the type of muffler. The ones I heard had none.

If I remember, I will post a picture when I get home tonight of a '69 McLaren/Chevy that is street driven on occasion around here. I have some detailed shots of the exhaust. An F1 type sound from this thing when he gets on it.
The 'mix' of the pipes occur above the bellhousing, aft of the engine then exit the rear, center facia of the car.

It appears in the preceeding pictures of the engine the forward two tubes go to the nearside collector and the aft two tubes go to the farside so my initial layout is incorrect, still, it depends on the firing order of the engine and how the cylinders are numbered..

Has to be a kit as only 2 genuine ones were ever made ... both in Museums I believe.

Not taking anything away from the car at all ... and also I believe this is probably an old kit or a car made by Trogen (sp?) (this company bought the license to the M6 McLaren and made many more Can Am cars I believe).

    Pete
BTW: Have a look at genuine GT40 headers ... they are built as you suggest. At low rpms they still have the slower beat but once revving hard they do sound close to a flat plane crank v8 ... and mucho beautiful ;)

Thanks for clarifying Pete. I am not well versed in the McLarens. A beautiful design!

A small block Chevy has a firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. So if they are laid out sequentially, cylinders 1,8,4,3 would feed into one collector and 6,5,7,2 would feed into the other? I'm just asking because if I remember the layout of a Chevy block correctly, your instructions wouldn't actually be sequential according to the firing order. Please clarify because the idea does sound interesting even if the headers would be a bundle of snakes.

Amazing Spasso! The pictures are beautiful and the exhaust design is extrodinary! I would love to hear how something like this sounds. Very cool.

You are correct Arlie. My initial instructions were incorrect. I was going off of hazy memory of a drag boat I was looking at.

When I found the pictures of the McLaren I realized I was wrong and corrected myself in the post right after the pictures.

So as it goes, the first four cylinders (1843) fire and exhaust in sequence into one collector creating a scavenging effect. The next four (6572) do the same into the other collector. It creates a very smooth sound when rapped up with none of the typical odd-fire pulse.

So what would happen if each collector was routed into a single tuned pipe? Much like a four-into-one header on a bike. It would be fun to experiment.

There are companies that make these headers and I have seen and heard them at the drag strip. The cars sound like they have built sixes or twelves in them when in fact they are 500 CU V8's.

    Time to surf around.............................................:)

I just checked back in here. This must be a rip-off an original design and pretend its real site. I cant believe what I am reading. TAKE THE BADGES OFF AND PUT ON BADGES THAT SAY "REPLICA", and see the responses you get. See how many people would dump their rip-off replica's in a heartbeat if they had to do that. This is a joke, as are the cars. Frog, I love your car, it is the best replica I have ever seen, and you are an exception to the normal replica owners I run across.

Nobody is pretending anything is real. The McLaren "copy" has no badges. So what? Call the cops?

    At the risk of repeating myself;

"After rereading this thread I have changed my view on replicas due to the additional perspectives offered.

I am convinced by the excruciatingly narrow criteria offered by those professing that only the REAL thing be allowed to EXIST that we the owners of THE REAL THING are driving replicas ourselves. Yes, replicas!

The only true and real example of any marque is the PROTOTYPE and any car built to copy the prototype thereafter is nothing but a replica of said prototype REGARDLESS of who builds it and REGARDLESS of whether the original designer and builder gives his blessings to produce these replicas.

The preceeding statement is based STRICTLY on arguements previously set forth in this thread.

Proud to be driving a REAL FERRARI REPLICA BUILT IN ITALY BY ITALIANS."

So how big do my "REPLICA" badges need to be?

A "replica" is meant to be a copy of an already produced item. As in "fake Oakley's, Gucci's.....and so on. If someone builds a car that is a unique design in a kit form, more power to them. Just dont put TR and Diablo badges on them, because it aint.

Well, I'm afraid people building replicas will continue to put badges on their "copies" in persuit of accuracy, at least on the better examples, further dilluting the exclusivity of your ownership of the real thing.

I guess because I own a lowley 308 of which 12,146 were built, and with luck maybe 8,000 are still on the road, I don't need to worry about exclusivity like owners of the more limited production exotics, that and the fact that most replicas seem to be Countach, Diablo and TR's. Maybe that is why replicas don't bother me as much. Who would bother with a 308? HA!
