Considering the huge amounts of money it costs companies to have their names and logos painted on F1 cars, I wonder how many F1 fans make conscience purchasing decisions based on those sponsorships. I've read articles that claim many NASCAR fans are influenced by the corporate logos on their favorite cars.

When I built my most recent PC, I went AMD instead of Intel because AMD sponsors Ferrari. Other than that, though, I can't recall any significant purchasing decisions I made based on any F1 sponsorships.

    How about any of you?

Sometimes I have some impluse purchases because of Ferrari sponsors or partners. For instance tic tac (the mints) used to sponsor Ferrari so I used to pick them up while shopping or at the gas station often. I wanted to buy a new pair of running shoes, and happened to spot a sports store at the mall selling Fila sports shoes, another sponsor of Ferrari, so I bought a pair.

Then there are the Shell-Oil products for the cars that catch my eye too. I do not smoke, so Marlboro has never earned any money off of me. Vodafone are not here in the states, but if they ever came this side of the ocean I would be one of the early customers to sign up for their cell phone service.

Not in anyway. I like BMW, but I don't own a Compaq (or is their sponsor HP?) and I frankly don't know any of their other sponsors. I like Ferrari as well, and I do have an AMD in my computer, but that is because I've considered AMD to be a superior product since before I watched Formula 1.

I am beyond "being sold". Sponsors can only make me NOT buy their product. I am never swayed by a logo. Now if they are a good company with good products, I will buy. But as for "O, cool". No freakin' way.

well lets see i am a Ferrari fan but i dont own an Acer computer. I use Intel processors in my computers. I use Nikon Camera equipment not olympus. I dont smoke, dont use Bridgestone tires.............

Sponsorship has no bearing on my purchasing. BTW i do have a HP printer but i hate BMW cars and the Williams team.

Sometimes the advertising on an F1 car will make me curious about the product. I had to find out what Wilux was just because I saw it on the Minardi. (bathroom fixtures). I guess F1 advertising works to a degree on me. I use Shell gasoline exclusively. But I have used Shell since 1979, and back then I think Ferrari used Agip. I have HP printers. But I bought one of them before Williams acquired them as a sponsor. I don't drink Bud, but I appreciate their sponsorship. If it is a product I use anyway, I will try and support a company if they are in F1. That said, F1 sponsorship never gave me a desire to become a smoker. I loved the JPS Lotus of Andretti and I had no idea it was a cigarette company. I just thought the black and gold was a fantastic color scheme for a race car. So in that respect, F1 sponsorship had no effect on me at all.

Now *IF* I decided to take up the slow death of smoking, I think I would still pick JPS, because I think I would look better in JPS clothes than I would in Marlboro attire. I just don't care for western wear. :)

Usually, there is an advertising agency to thank, not some high-mucky-muck in a corporate glass tower, for "sponsoring" an F1 team. It's just another demographics-based advertising decision.

Besides, I already know these brands. Seeing their logos yet again is not about to sway my purchasing decisions one way or the other.

For motor oil, we go whatever's in the store, but for fuel in the Ferrari we try to use Shell if we can, but if the tank is low and there is not one nearby it's not a problem, we just prefer it. In the other cars, I don't think it matters as much, and I've always wanted to try an AMD over an Intel anyway (my dad has used Intel for 15+ years, it'll be hard to convince him)

Most companies who sponsor racing are BIG companies. And at that level, everyone has heard of the company, so the advertising is just to "keep the name fresh in your mind", not to actually get you to buy something.

Example... Fanta has those new commercials on TV. Before those, most folks didn't "consider" Fanta the same way they consider Mountain Dew, Coke, etc, etc. When a big brand stops advertising, they gradually lose market share.

My experience anyway. I don't buy stuff because the companies sponsor F1, but I must admit it lends a certain quality to their product. I like that BMW sponsors F1, because I drive one and it makes me feel there is a certain technological quality to their cars.

It would take a lot of racing for me to think of GM/Ford/Chrysler as "quality cars" though.

I try to go shell when I think of it and I use AMD (not because of Ferrari though). Other than that, not really, although I would get a vodafone if the option was available.

I pick Shell fuel very often simply because they sponsor Ferrari. But I do consider their gas tied for 2nd best (behind Chevron, tied with Mobil and Exxon).

I do buy HP printers... but they do make the most trouble-free, highly compatible printers (in my experience).

No amount of F1 sponsorship will get any cigarette sales out of me.

So, overall, I guess sponsorships do two things:

    1) increase brand awareness
    2) help me choose when otherwise I'd have no strong preference

but I would never choose an inferior product just because of sponsorship.
