Spotted this online earlier today. Seems someone slipped into the McLaren prep area before the race. Might explain the wing problem.

On the replay, I'm going to have another look at Kimi's pit stop.

They were trying to rush him out before Michael went by. I wonder if a mechanic pushed on that wing to help get the McLaren rolling.

Either that, or DC's stayed on because Rubino give his an extra little thump to seat it. ;)

(For the "slide rule set": this was the first race all year that RB got no points.) (But everyone was overdriving their brakes on that turn.)

Rubens did not bump in Kimi's car. Ruben'***** Coulthard's car. So no he could have caused it.

I am pretty sure the reason for the damage on the wing was because a Mclaren mechanic tried to push Kimi's car out to get it out quicker after the 1st pitstop. Either way Kimi looked extremely frustrated.

Sometimes you got hit rock bottom to make real progress. Well, I can't imagine it getting any lower than this seson for Mclaren.

    Rubens Barrichello
“It’s been a tough day. I had to protect my line at the start as Montoya was very close. I tried to get inside Coulthard but unfortunately I locked the rear wheels and I guess it was all my fault. I hit him hard enough to brake my front wing. My race was therefore spoilt from start to finish. We changed strategy but we always knew that two stops was going to be very hard and that is how things turned out. Sometimes things don’t go to plan and today was one of those days.”

Atleast Rubens is man enough to accept his fault and is not making lousy excuses or blaming someone else.

Ferrari will just have to wait till Hungary to be crowned Constructors' Champions.

Yep, RB made a bonehead move, but he knows it. I also agree many of the cars were locking up there and it was easy to make the mistake.

Anyone know what lap times RB was running after he got the new wing? Seems like he wasn't moving up though the field very quick. I have a suspicion that he's not motivated enough when bad luck comes his way.

What you seem to be advocating is CanAm rules in open wheel racing. This is supporting the "Cubic Dollars" formula of racing, as if they are not spending enough as it is. In this plan, the only competitive teams will be the ones with the most money, reducing the level of parity presently enjoyed (tongue firmly in cheek), the show will be permanently reduced the one or two teams, the most generous of sponsors/backers. This lack of dollar/competition parity, IMO, is what helped to kill CanAm, and IMSA. Personally, I find it quite interesting to see what someone can come up with within the "box" of the establised rules.

"forced induction" I could not disagree more with this idea, this can force all teams to change to this format of power plant. Turbos should race against turbos, not in a mixed field, there will always be an advantage in turbo cars, in regards to producing power when running in thinner air (altitude or temperature related). I feel that turbos were major another factor in the demise of CanAm, and IMSA. Turbos also allow, the possibility of dialing up the ponies to get past someone on a high speed segment of the track, then dialing down for fuel economy and being in the way and blocking on the slower, handling portions of the course.

There has to be some set of basic construction rules, hence the word Formula.

    Regards,
    Bill

Rubens Barrichello's fastest lap was lap 59 in which he clocked 1:14.963. It was the 12th fastest on the day.

PSk's view of this race which he did indeed watch.

RB - Another completely useless race by this d!ckhead. He was never going to get through ... no wonder he hardly ever tries to pass because he does not know how to. Thankfully at the French GP Trulli got out of his way ... From my view RB missed his braking point and would have run wide anyway ... so brain was having trouble keeping up with progress. His fight back through the field was er, well their was no fight back. He apparently set the 14th fastest lap of the race ... who fncken cares, not enough passion and commitment, should follow Trulli into retirement IMO.

MS - Usual on rails performance.

Rakkonen - Oh what a pity his wing fell off, he was fast and might have made a race of it. Oh how I wish he could take RB's place ;)

    Button - Simply brilliant.

    Weber - Excellent battling race.

Sato - Also a great race.

Trulli - Had a tough one thanks to bits of Rakkonen's wing stuck under his car, but he is hopeless anyway.

Montoya - Bad start ... probably technical and really appeared to be battling his car all race ... but atleast he never gave up like RB :(.

Overall I enjoyed the many battles, especially the Weber, Trulli and Sato one ... good stuff :)

My driver of the race has to be MARK WEBBER!!!!!!
Did any of you see the move that he pulled on Trulli and got away with it??? Overtaking move of the race by far......
For Mark to be in the points in the nail of a car that the Jag is, kudos to him.
He will be a force at Williams next year.

Yes it was a great move. Stuck the car up the inside and braked longer so that Trulli could not get up the inside and have a chance. Perfect technique ... the guy can race.

Can't wait to see him battling MS ... :D ;) ... seriously, as Williams are due for a good car.

This is the first time Rubens has not finished in the points all season.
    WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT!!!!

His race was compramised by the collision with Coulthard. Then the team decided to put him on a different pit stop strategy and to have only two more planned pit stops after the front wing was replaced. It is very hard to fight for positions when your car is so much heavier with fuel than the others. He would have finished in 9th position had it not been for a last minute tire puncture.

He had a bad day. He was man enough to accept it. He has scored more points this season than your beloved Sato, Montoya, Kimi, Webber and Alonso.

It is very easy to bash one of the most consistent performers in F1. Rubens always comes back to silence his critics.

This was definitely one of the best races of the year. Lots of passing. And the commentators say this track doesn't like passing...

    Pete,

Schumi has done the same thing and ended up just as far down the field as Ruby if not worse.

I hate to say it but Button impressed me more than Webber or Sato and again I think Fisi and Alsonso we the best of the rest.

One other thing that came out of the race , they should remove all the wingss from the cars as this will be the simplest method of slowing the cars and seeing some real car control

How is this USUAL when it has happened for the FIRST TIME all season!!!!!

It was his mistake. He agrees it was his fault. ONLY FOOLS think this a usual occurence and that he compramises his own race as USUAL!!! Rubens is a consistent performer and for the first time he finishes outside the points. How can you say he compramises all his races.

Are you sure you actually watched this race? How can you be so sure he compramises ALL his races when you did not even watch the last race?

No one is saying it is not his fault. He made a mistake, atleast he is man enough to accept it. Not like Montoya or Sato, running around making a dozen excuses. After that collision running on heavy fuel for the rest of the race there was no way to fight for positions.

    John,

Never said RB was the only person ever to do this ;). But the difference is that MS would not have finished a lack luster 12th.

The difference is that MS has won squillions of races, RB has won a few, and also RB has had more lack luster performances than MS has driven Ferraris ;).

All I am trying to say is that I do not rate the guy. Yes he usually gets points ... so fncken what!. Remember guys he is in the BEST car and team. For him NOT to get points is a complete embarrassment, even if he started a lap down.

So yet again RB has to make that same old speech ... the race just was not mine today ... Most racing drivers make the race theirs, RB waits for it to happen by some sort of miracle (like Irvine used to ... Irvines own opinion stated in one of his biographies).

    Yes Button was great.

You are right!!! He should have won the race! Heck with winning the race... he should have won the race by atleast 5 laps!!! Oh wait a second... THEN YOU WOULD HAVE COMPLAINED THAT THE RACE WAS TOO BORING FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He should have battled through the entire field and then battled Michael and won the race. Rubens you are a fool, you are a bad racer, you suck Rubens, YOU ARE AN EMBARASSEMENT to Ferrari and to F1. Something tells me that Rubens who is currently in second place in the driver's championship thinks otherwise.

There is no lack of critics in this world. Keep on going Rubens. Actions always speek louder than words.

Rubens screwed up big time as he simply unplugged his brain on the first lap. He ended up paying the price and i am sure Luca and Jean Todt will be having a talk with him this week.
