As a novice and not wanting to break anything is it easy getting the old gear knob off a 328 GTS. Tried unscewing but didn't seem to want to move.

    Any advice appreciated

    Thanks

There's probably a little hex nut on the at the bottom of the shifter ball. Also, make sure you're not also turning the whole metal shaft while trying to turn the knob itself.

My eyesight is kind of lame, so I put a small piece of masking tape on the shaft, then when I tried to turn the shift knob, I could tell if the whole shaft was turning.

If you look at the base of the shift arm there are wrench flats there- I think a 13mm. Hold the arm from torqueing.

Loosen jam nut under the knob.

A rubber strap wrench will turn the knob without damaging it.

It just unscrews- the nut underneath the knob is to hold it in position i.e. so the shift diagram on top is oriented properly.

If you break yours, you can get a Ferrari-sized and threaded aluminum or titanium one from www.TeamVoodoo.com here in the USA or sponsor Paul Hill in the UK. Or a carbon fiber knob from sponsor Sodacom.

Buy the team voodoo knob even if you don't break it. It's a great knob.

Thanks for your advice. Had already ordered the gear knob which arrived today. Based on the quality of this I am ordering the quick shift now. Why didn't Ferrari put similar items on as standard?

    Thanks for your advice

    Regards

Yep, I had the Paul Hill knob also - It is great! Just use a wrench to hold the hex nut and the stock knob will turn.
