I am quite ballistic about the follwing story, currently happening to me.

bought my car (550 maranello) with only one remote. when i asked the specialist i bought it from about the redkey (the master remote), he told me it could be sorted as he had a spare one.

Now to get the spare redkey to synch with the car you need a securitiy code from ferrari. my dealer goes to ferrari with car, registration docs to prove it was legitimate and the spare redkey. he needs the code to do the reprogramming.

Guess what : ferrari is refusing the give the codes and wants to sell a full set of remotes !!!!

Apparently it's ferrari in the UK doing this kind of monkey business.

I am totally appalled by this attitude. IT IS TRUE EXTORTION ! there is no justification for their ugly attitude (except greed of course). I would like to share this story with everybody on the board. We pile a LOT of money in these cars and this attitude is IMO inacceptable.

I would also would like to know what ferrari UK (one site sponsor) can officially tell us about this way of doing business.

WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR SOMETHING I ALREADY HAVE ?????

I fully agree 100%, the only reason ferrari does this is becourse owners let them. Ferrari does not have to justify the rip of prices, faulty parts, short parts life spans ect, becourse the die hard owner justifys it for them, ie: "the charm of owning a ferrari" or "that ferrari character " ect, ect. And ferrari sits back laughing saying suckers. One can only imagian the laughter that goes on in the ferrari paint shop by the guy who paints the green and white stripe down a car knowing the punters will pay an extra four grand for having it,.priceless.

if i were you, i think i'd be first and foremost pissed off at the guy who sold me the car. clearly he made a promise he can't fulfill now (in a fiscally expedient manner). in theory this should be his problem not yours, right? and how he solves it and what it costs really needn't be your concern, i'd think.

I would like to hear from Ferrari UK as well.
In the UK it may be different but here I would turn around and sue them to get their attention.

Get your friendly neighborhood nerd (pocket protector, glasses held together with tape, bad haircut, white socks, the works) (picture the "before" Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor) to head over to FUK (ironic acronym, that, wot?), along with spectrum analyzer traces on a clipboard, to ask (in an appropriately cliche whiny voice), "As I understand that Ferrari has abanoned the remote retro-programming market, leaving the field open for an individual entrepreneur to fill this service need, then there is no corporate obstacle to reverse engineering the past deployed hardware set -- is this correct?" ;)

    Wattle it be, hmmmm?

Your dealer should cough up for the keys and order them ASAP. The quid it'll cost won't dent the profit margin he made on the sale.

Yes, the dealer should make it right. Now, and I'm sure you don't want to hear this, as a lesson I think it important to complete a deal with everything in hand or at least make it clear in writing what has to be done by the seller. If they do not fulfill their promise agree up front that you will return the car for a full refund. I'm sure that they would make it right rather than having to take the car back in this case.

I see(me included) in many cases, we get so excited about the purchase that we let things slide that can be potentially a disappointment later.

Good luck getting it worked out.

Wow, that would piss me off. They have the codes but won't give them to you. How disappointing...... That is what is nice about the internet. Five years ago, they would have just gotten away with this type of customer service without anyone knowing. I think it's important for them to know that you have posted this and we all want an explanation as to why they won't assist you. What a disgrace to be treated in this manner.

You have support & we all want to see the answer.
