My car in the shop getting the rust out of the doors and the shop is concerned about how to put it all back together.

The concern is how does the window wire run through the door. It's going to be a couple of days before they are ready to put it back together and they don't think they will be able to remember how it ran in the door.

Does anyone have the physical wire pattern or route the wire takes when it leaves the real of the window motor.

Thx for the help, but I got one more question. I heard you need to roll up the wire on the spool unitl the loop is 52 inches long. Do you roll up the wire as it sits with both end with everything together by just turning the motor or do you take it apart and roll one end 2 or 3 time depending on the 52 inch rule?

I think the second way is how to do it, seems like it would be a lot less trouble just to turn the motor on and let it wind it upas in the first question.

    Hi Kelly,
If you didn't take the motor apart, I don't think your windings will be off - no need to rewind them. But FYI, on my car there are about 3-1/2 turns to get the right length on a '79 308 GTB, and I had to wind arround the drum by hand.

I just cleaned out the grease-that-turns-to-epoxy out of mine as described in ClydeM's post, and I made a tool to hold the cable while you are fishing the motor back in the door. It is just a wedge made of wood that goes between the drum with the windings and one of the plastic bosses on the motor.

I could not get tape to hold the windings in place, and the cable must ride in the grove of the drum perfectly - no crossing etc - or this thing will not work. Anyway, with the wedge gently stuffed against the drum, everything is held in place 'till the tension is on the cable. then you can pull the wedge out the speaker hole. Also here is a diagram I made for the cable path.

I tried putting mine together several (many) times before I made the tool. After I used the wedge I got it first time. You may have to run the motor some with the glass unattached to get the range of travel right. Then tighten up the glass to the cables.

    good luck - Ron
