Does anybody know how long the cable is on the 308 window motor spool assembly? Mine broke and frayed.

What about assembling the cable to the motor? How does it wind up on the motor spool?

Also, when attaching the cable to the window, what exactly does the attaching bolt and nut look like where the cable attaches to the window? And which side of the bolt does the cable go?

What is the best procedure for adjusting the window?

Search the old FChat archives for 'window' and 'cable', and 'Sears'. One of the members describes how to replace the original cable with a cable from Sears HW, including the small crimp-ons to keep the ends in the motor. Pretty sure he gave the length.

I just went through this this morning! Made the cable about an inch too short! Not enough length for the window to go all the way up. I never had a good spool and cable to compare it to. I will try again on the week-end. To keep the wire on the spool I drilled a hole into a piece of wood, heated up some solder and filled the hole. While it was still wet, dunked in the end of the cable. When it cools it is rock hard and can be shaped on a grinding stone to the original shape, it will never come off. I used this technique on the trunk and hood releases.

The loop needs to meacusre 52inches from the spool. I wrapped mine 3 times to get it to 52inches. Plenty of info in the archives.
