Boxers were delivered with a battery size that was not avail in the US. Most were converted to take one that is avail and were not all done the same. You should just measure the one you have and take note of the terminal positions and get one that matches.

    Hi...........

Some years ago, I took the battery from my Boxer to Sears and obtained a Diehard battery designed for a Mercedes-Benz application. The terminals are in the correct positions for the cables in the battery box and it comes with a red plastic positive terminal cover.

    Good luck !!!!!

    Michael,

There is an Interstate Battery that is an exact match in terms of size and terminal layout. I bought one this spring fits perfectly.

As mentioned, you need to be aware of which end the pos/neg terminals are on. Many Ferraris have them reversed from most other cars....there are newer "universal" sizes that have the posts very close to the centerline, so regardless, you can easily flip the battery around, and the cables should still reach. With a standard battery, with the terminals very close to the front edge, if you flip the battery around, the cables might not reach. Though sometimes they will.

The two "universal" sizes that are used in many older Ferraris is the 75/35 and 78/34. Measure carefully to see if they will fit...you can get these at Costco, too. The same company that makes the Sears batteries makes the Costco ones.

The Boxer battery does not have reverse poles, so the Optima Red Top fits fine. For cars with such reverse poles, as in a 348 Spider, you need the Optima Orange Top.

Uh, no...Parkerfe better give you the size designation...as there are at least four sizes of Redtop Optima batteries....34, 75/35, 78/34 and the aformentioned 34R with the reversed terminals...the orange top is no longer manufactured...the redtop 34R replaces it (there may still be some orange top inventory out there though....)

BTW the smallest one, the 78/34 (720 CCA) is available at Costco for $99. If it will fit, you could also get the Kirkland Signature brand battery (same as a Diehard) 75/35, which has 900 CCA!

The 34, 34R and 75/35 are all rated at 800 CCA. The car probably only requires 600 CCA.
