Here's a puzzler. My best and oldest friend's father owned a 250 GTE from new which he traded in 1964 for a 330. My friend has no idea what the chassis number was and his father died. Is there a 250 GTE registry online similar to the two 330 registries? My friend would like to find the car if it exists. We know that the car was silver gray, and that's about it. However, there were only a few hundred made, so going through a registry listing looking for gray 250s delivered to a dealer in Germany would probably narrow it down to a manageable few cars.

The car was delivered originally to Auto Becker the Ferrari dealer in Dusseldorf which inconveniently recently went bankrupt. We could probably come up with the original German license number.

    Thoughts?

Have you thought of posting in the European section?
There are plenty of guys from Germany on there and I know Wolfgang has something to do with the Ferrari Owners Club, may have the connections needed to dig up this kind of information.
    Good luck in your search

    Erik,

As a 250 GTE owner myself I was interested in your mail. You have very few choices. Best will be to send an email to Bill Preston who runs the 250 GTE Register (via email only - no website). his email address is :

    [email protected]

    and his address is :

    250 GTE Register & Newsletter
    3119 Rainbow Ridge
    Prescott AZ 86303-5768.

I have mailed him a few times and he is a nice man.

Now here is a super long shot for you. When I bought my 250 GTE recently I was VERY close to buying a car in Berlin. Probably a 1% chance it was the car in question but just in case the Chassis number was #2281 and the car was silver gray.

A picture is attached. I passed on the car in the end (because the dealer was kind of an a***hole) and I found a much nicer one in the US.

Good luck with your search because it won't be easy without a chassis number. Let me know if you need any more help.

    Simon and Darren,

Thanks for the good ideas. I will post this on the European thread and I emailed Bill Preston.

Darren, that story makes the hairs on my back stand up. You never know. How many gray/silver 250 GTEs could have been imported into Germany originally? I'll bet less than 5 cars.

The dealer was Thiesen in Berlin. Probably best you don 't mention my name because I kind of ended up telling him what I thought of him. Not much.

I know the car is now sold because it is off their website. The guy that runs the showroom in Berlin details are :

    Karl - Helmut Larkamp
    E. Thiesen Berlin GmbH
    Email : [email protected]
    Web : www.thiesen-berlin.de

    Happy hunting.

Many, many thanks for this. I will ask my friend to send me pictures.

Shame - would have been a great story. The car I saw was for sure #2281 and isn't listed by Kare.

Kare - was amazed about the level of detail you had on Auto Becker. As you know (we correpsonded in the past I think) I bought 2895 (Blue/Tan) this year. Do you have any history on that car at all ?

I have built a good history since it's arrival in the US but know little of its early life in Switzerland I believe. Can you help ?

    PM if approapriate.

    Cheers,

    Darren.
