Hey, I need some opinions. I hit a curb today, my tire did not lose pressure, I did however take a 1/4" chunk out of my sidewall, how thick is a sidewall on a 265/35/18 tire? Any opinions?

    Thanks

Agreed. Once you harm the sidewall, get new tires. If you ever puncture the side wall and bring it to get fixed at a shop, they will tell you right away they can't. There is no reinforcement in the sidewall like there is the tread.

Yes, replace that tire. 1/4" is a lot.

Sorry, but I agree with all the others. Sure, you're out some serious $$ for the tires, but how much could it cost to have the damaged one blow out at 60 mph ... bite the bullet.

Will insurance even cover a driver if he knows about this kind of problem?
Get on with it. Take the bus and go buy 2 tires. I would park that thing in a massive hurry. One good side load and you could be licking sap from the back of your eyeballs. It blows. but ya gotta do it.

I agree. get two new tires, or you can wait and get two new tires and a new rim.

I agree get a new tire, if the one on the opposite side is worn, get two. I drive past some loading docks to get to the office, and it's been known to happen that you can pick up nails ect. from some of the broken pallets around. Went a year without any problems, then had two nails in two weeks on the same corner. Both nails were just on the edge of the tread and sidewall, not a 1/4" gouge, but enough that it could not be patched. Two new tires, ouch.
