    Hey Guys,

I've been a bit busy today...... so it's taken me awhile to reply. (I've actually had to work)

    I support you Zup!!!

I don't think there is anything shady.... and trust me I'm not losing sleep over the money...lol

I was just hoping we were getting you closer to the goal and the goal "post" seems to have moved. Maybe your $700-$300 figure was way off. I have no idea....... But if this was telethon (Fchatathon) you would start with a goal and keep us posted by how much is remaining to reach it.

NO STRESS...... NON AT ALL......... It's a Friday fur g'damn sake...:D

Oh and Alan, the sponsorship thing is for grins - I'm not holding you to anything or care much more then for laughs. (Though, I might write this off as a marketing expense for the business) On second thought... think BIG :D

It is to send Zupra and his mother, as he is 12 years old, to the FFQC (check the Louisiana Section) that is in November.

I lost count of how much more he needs, but he is only asking for $1 per user. You get a picture from the FFQC as a thank you.

I agree. Does Zupra even have any experience driving karts? (as I got from other posts that this is what he'll be doing at the event).

USD $2400 seems a bit rediculous just to give a 12 year old a good time for a few days. Especially when it isn't their own money and this all really serves no purpose. It would be different if this was to help an aspiring race driver make the leap from karting to another race series by funding a test drive in a Formula Ford, meeting serious contacts at the event or something like that.

For this amount of money, he could buy his own kart, safety gear, tyres, toolkit and go out to the local track and start driving.

    Am I missing something?

He will noy be driving karts at the event, the kart mentioned is the one that Speedy will be giving him when they meet there, the money is for Zupra to have a once in a life time opportunity at New Orleans, meeting Speedy seeing all the Ferraris there going to the ball and staying at a hotel, plus travel costs ETC.

But to be honest, when this was a $700 goal we were shooting for, I was thinking it's doable. I think it's going to be hard to scrape up a couple of grand. Not trying to be a downer but are there ways to cut the expenses? You might get more interest from other fchaters if they didn't think they were laying out for a good cause to such a "high roller". Why don't the event people only charge him for one ticket as most of the time he is a spectator anyway? I think we can get him there.... we just got to sharpen the pencil a bit. No?

Oh and by the way ...... that's "Dble Platinum!!" for leading da way

I totally agree with you, but Zupra being twelve wants everything, i dont think he quite grasps the difference between $700 and $3.000.

I've put that back in Mrs. zupra's lap...she's helping with a bake sale or something.

She works from home and will assist in that regard....

The French Quarter Ferrari Classic is a alternative to what's going on in Monterrey this weekend....so viewed against the travel budgets required for that...this event is definately more economical for Southern Enthusiasts...

    * here look thru the glass at me...tap...tap.. that's a Southern Enthusiast*

I think once the people from NO return from cali, we'll get some interest in zupra's situation...

The point of this thread is to show Mrs. zupra that Chesney has some friends to help him along...

I"M OFF TO GET THE KART! Co racer Jeremey Lawrence has been kind enough to get it fired up with some fresh fuel and give all the neighborhood kids a ride..

OK outta there buddy.....we got things to do..........

zupra's career as a kart driver starts November 11, 2004.

You need to check the link in Louisiana to understand how big this is....

Napolis is coming with the P3, GT40, and Lola all three to shake 'em down...

    I'll pledge $10.

I have yet to even be a passenger in a Ferrari, let alone experience something like the FFQC... though I can't afford to go myself, I'd love to do my part to help send a 12-year-old to a such a great Ferrari experience.

    Count me in.

I PayPal-ed it to that address Zupra posted earlier.

P.S. To those who have posted thoughts along the lines of, "He should be mowing lawns to pay for this, etc.," presumably in the interest of "building character" or some such abstraction: The ability and willingness to work hard is certainly a valuable character trait and few if any people succeed over time without it, BUT, in this day and age at least as valuable is the ability to cultivate relationships with influential/powerful friends and acquaintances who can help you achieve your goals. I wish someone had taught me that when I was 12. Hopefully, from this experience, Zupra will learn that by being civil, sincere and respectful he can earn the good opinion of others, which can work to his advantage. There are lots of people older and presumably more mature than him who could stand to learn that lesson!

Man, I just read Chuck King's post again, that is so choice...he really summarized my intent with this...to dare to dream higher than you can imagine achieving...that's really important in life.

That's how I ran my race team the entire six years....

    You doing OK Omar?

I got thrown out of a lot of places, seeking my sponsors.....LOL!

But I always made it somehow....many simply "shared the vision" I guess..

A longtime mentor gave ME the most rousing encouragement..before he passed away later in the year....it was about helping people, looking behind you as well as in front, as you gained success in your personal life....

Robert Putterman was his name..I called his son years later as the team became reality and hit the streets...I don't know that his son ever watched us race...

In much the same way, my father attended my first race to watch as long as he was comfortable...but didn't even let me know he was there, not wishing to distract me..he would tell me later how important it was to "keep my eye on the ball"...we finished second for The Mayor's Cup, in our rookie year.

We had Mario Andretti in our pits, giving advice.....
