I guess I am the only one that thought Ronin had a great scene in it. The firearms sounded just right in the one scene. Heat as much as I want to love it doesnt sound right on my system. I will try again later though to make sure the sound wasnt too low the first time.
You lost me... "Heat" was on his list, and I said he "got a good one" - i.e. he picked what I think is the best gunfight movie out there. Maybe I'm missing something It is the weekend after all and 2/3 of my brain is shut down until I get back to work Monday!
I don't give a darn who's on first or what's on second... Nevertheless, the good Admiral was first with "Heat" - even named names and yeared years. Now, if I can throw a monkey wrench into the "bewilderness," Mr. Payne may be alluding to the last flicks listed on shoutout to shootout list, which all start with "The" and ends up looking like a very bad movie title.
'The Untouchables' depicted a violent era during the Capone days and had quite a few good shootouts. This is the kind of movie where you wanted the good guys to actually kill the bad guys. When a good guy died, you felt sad. In quite a few of the other gun films like 'Heat', most everyone cheers for the bad guys to get away. Quite often a sympathetic female character is thrown into the mix to get one to root for the bad dudes. In 'Heat' it was Ashley Judd. In 'The Professional' it was a young Natalie Portman pitted against Gary Oldman's bad cop character...
Heat, hands down. Also, in theatres, it had the most realistic sounds during the shootout. Most movies do not accurately depict just how loud real gunfire is at close range, esp. in an urban setting. Heat did. Awesome running gun battle with full-auto AK's & M16's/M4's, as well as Pacino's FN/FAL.
what about Desperado with Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek? I thought that had some good scenes. I didn't mention the others cause you guys took all the other good ones. Chris
Start to finish I would have to say T2. A REALLY good opening shoot out in Silverado. And the end of The Usual Suspects
The Final Option. Those who have seen it will probably agree that the ending scene at the embassy ranks among the best. DL
For a non war movie Heat. For a war movie Saving Private Ryan followed by Band of Brothers. For a silly TV show where no one ever got hit. The A Team.
Two of the best I've seen: FBI/Police vs drug dealer shootout at opening of "Hannibal", which starts when a city cop who thinks he's running the bust is upstaged at the last minute by a female FBI agent, loses his cool and opens fire seconds after being ordered to stand down. The last scenes in "Unforgiven", when Eastwood learns that old pal and fellow reformed ultra-badguy Morgan Freeman has been tortured to death by evil sheriff Gene Hackman. He immediately chugs down half a fifth of whiskey, rides into town, crashes through the swinging saloon doors and precisely and coolly blows away Hackman's eight or ten heavily armed cronies, then dramatically kills Hackman. After knocking back another couple of drinks at the bar, he rides off into the night never to be seen again. I think Eastwood did a similar cleanup of a bad sheriff and henchmen in "Pale Rider"--also an excellent gunfight.
Heat. One of my favorite movies of all time and the bank rob scene is one of the best ever! ...I think Heat is the only movie where I ever rooted for the bad guy
Killing Zoe ... a must see sick flick by Roger Avary... stars Eric Stoltz. dont miss this one. Has one of the sickest bank robberies gone bad on the silver screen.
Hard Boiled does have lots of rounds, not sure if it has more than Predator though when they're all tearing up the woods for like 5 mins straight with fully automatics and the gatling gun, lol.
