I recently had new key blanks cut for my '79 308. I tried the new copy and with a little wiggling, it worked. Now, however, the original key will not turn in the ignition unless I wiggle it a lot (e.g., 1-2 minutes of wiggling before I can get it to turn). The same thing goes for my copy as well. Does anyone know how or if I can fix this?

    Thanks.

Are you wiggling the key, or both the key and steering wheel? This often helps in my experience.

Otherwise a new ignition barrel and keys would sort the problem.

I've had to pull and rebuild my ignition key switch as well, but good suggestion on moving the wheel as any bind will transmit to the key switch as well..

It may be worth spraying a touch of WD40 in to the lock barrel, just incase some of the blades are sticking.

Thanks for the help. The steering wheel locks immediately as soon as I take the key out. Wiggling the steering wheel does not seem to help.

It appears that in order to get the key to work, I need to pull the key out just ever so slightly while turning it. It just takes several attempts to make that happen. Thanks Again

Andrew, i found wd40 to go all gooey once the solvent element evaporates.
Every home should have a 'bottle' of graphite powder type lock lubricant.
    cheers, d

I had the same thing happen on my Pantera once. I sprayed some clear, non-greasy (can't remember the name) stuff in the ignition and it cleared up and that was years ago.
