my 360 f1 pops out of 1st and sits in neutral if the car is stationary for around 10-15 secs when in automatic mode. It also beeps when it does this, is this normal?

I'm not absolute for sure about this, but I think that sounds normal. I think it pops out of first so that it doesn't ride the clutch while you are stopped. Have a look at your owners manual, it should say in there if it is normal or not. I'm guessing that it is with the F1 transmission.

Check Chapter 3.14 in your owner's manual. It gives you 4 reasons why the car's doing this in normal mode.

I've not bother to use the Auto mode in over 3 years, but I think it will stay in 1st gear at a stop unless you didn't press the brake or gas pedal within 4 seconds (like in normal mode). Again, please check the manual.

Also, please fill out your profile because we like to get to know a fellow 360 owner better.

Further technical postings for the 360 should be posted in the "Modern" section rather than the general, not model specific section.

It does not matter if the car is in manual or auto mode, if the car is running and in gear, if you leave your foot off the brake, after a few seconds the computer will select neutral as a safety precaution. An alarm beep will also sound to advise you of that fact. Also the system is designed to prevent you from selecting a gear if the drivers door, or the engine cover is opened. It is strictly done for safety and has nothing to to with preventing clutch throw out bearing wear. In fact on the 360 F1, at all times when the motor is running the clutch is heald in the disengaged (clutch compressed) position.

First off Rifledriver, may I say I always look forward to your knowledgeable posts. You are a great example of what make this community as great as it is.

Not to hijack the thread because all the posted information is correct and thorough, but being a 355 F1 driver myself, does it, too, just hold the clutch in this disengaged positon when in neutral? I would like to know so that I can stop dropping the car in neutral instead of first at stop lights and such. I always assumed I was doing the mechanicals a favor with the car in neutral.

    Best,
    Pino

I discovered that quite by accident on a 360 a couple of years ago while doing a diagnosis on an F1 problem. To answer the exact same question as yours a couple of weeks ago I checked a 355 F1 with the SD2, and no, it does not hold the clutch compressed while in N. Only does it when a gear is selected. I too am sorry for straying from the subject.

the 360 f1 should pop into neutral if the car is in 1st gear (with a sound beep too) and the driver does not press on the gas or the brake pedal for like 10 seconds or something.......maybe 5 seconds or 15 seconds....i forgot what the exact number was.

    its normal.
