    Does anyone have a picture of where the ground strap is supposed to connect. I know its very simple but I just want to make sure. Does it just attach to the alternator body somewhere, then to the pan. If anyone knows for sure, let me know. MIne does not have one now and I want to put it on.

    oh yea, I found a rebuilder guy here who is going to rebuild my 100 amp non Ferrari alternator, and bring it up to the 140 amp rating. I have a feeling the reason why this one failed is because at night when Im running the a/c, lights and my huge stereo system, it could not handle it, plus it did not have the ground update.

    IIRC "bigheadeddennis" said the factory up date cable is only $12-$15 from Ferrari....if you decide to make your own, just make sure you use a sufficiently large guage. The one pictured looks to be at least 8 ga.

    Did the factory ever install these during the build and if so, when did they start doing it?

    It is a good idea for all 355 owners to check and see if they have one. According to my builder the alternator failed because it did not have enough ground.

    According to my parts CD, starting at Assembly #32629. Notice, not chassis number, but Assembly number.

    Alternator failure was a common thing until those ground straps came out. Your rebuilder was right, those spring loaded lower mounts were designed to isolate the alt from vibration and were a lousy ground path. ALL 355's need a ground strap, At the dealer I was at I instructed every one to install them on every car that came in for service, that is why Redhead is so familiar with them. I could be wrong but I don't believe they were ever factory installed, the fix did not come out until after the cars were out of production. I think the assy # refers to which cars need them because the early 355's did not have a spring loaded mount and it was felt they did not need a ground strap (I think they do).
