The front brakes discs on my F355 (97) are almost dead. I measured the following thickness on both front discs : - 26.12 mm on the right disc; - 26.28 mm on the left disc. If I don’t mistake me, the “Min TH” for the front discs of the F355 is 26.00 mm. Can someone confirm me the min thickness value? In order to get good performance at a good price (compared to the Ferrari’s option), I’m planning to order myself a pair of Brembo discs. On the Brembo Web site (www.brembo.com) I could only identify “AM” (After Market) discs for a street usage. Apparently, none of the “High Performance” products is allowed on the European open roads. Does anybody know if there is another Brembo product line authorized on the streets? Any experience with Brembo discs are welcome (lifetime, feeling, price, performance, … )? Lastly, I’m also interested by good address(es) in Europe where I can purchase the discs (idealy in Switzerland or France). Many thanks in advance for your advice. Bye, Christophe.
FWIW, in the US, Gary Krumian ([email protected]) has those Brembo rotors at $200/$180 apiece, about $90 cheaper than what Tire Rack is asking. He's been very helpful to me, and ships out quickly. Dunno what the shipping charges are to Switzerland or France. I just use the OEM Brembo disc - not drilled, not slotted. Works fine for me, and I get LOTS of track days out of them. vty, --Dennis
All I know is my factory pads on my 355 squealed horribly. They were replaced with Porterfield pad which don't squeal. I won't go with factory pads again... Dino
Chris, Think twice about using noticeable non-OEM parts, a picky inspector at the DMV could easily notice that the discs are non-standard and ask for manufacturer homologation paper, same story as rims. Don't know how the guys are in Geneva, but in Lausanne ... Cheers, JC
@Dennis, That's exactly the model I'm targetting. Plain not drilled, not slotted one. Thanks for your experience. @JC, I did not though about that to be frank. By looking for Brembo homologated products specific to the car, I thought that the local car inspection would not have been an issue. Could Brembo not provide the homologation papers ... if requested? This would eleviate the control issue. Any information about the min TH value? FYI I read 26.5mm in the Ferrari workshop book. But I'm not shure whether it's the lowest value for a disc rectification. Or if it's simply the min TH value. Bye guys, Christophe.
are the Bermbo crossed drilled rotors any good? i saw a set for $1460.00 also the price you quoted for Bermbo rotors $200/$180 seems very cheap. i have also read you can if you want get these drilled for $35.00 a rotor.
But why would you want them drilled? They don't help cooling, they don't noticeably reduce weight (and here, the more mass, the better the disc can take the heat), and drilling weakens the rotor and shortens the life thereof. The holes do help clean the pads, but it's really not worth it. Buy the solid discs for $200, and save yourself a LOT of money - spend it on tires instead! vty, --Dennis
Try www.************. Girodisc makes a great 2-piece replacement unit for about the same proce as the Brembo Oe replacement 1 piece. check the pic. Eric
velocityengineer, welcome to the site! Please take the time to fill out your profile. BTW absolutely stunning 355, which color is it? It cannot be G. Alloy is it?
Thanks for all the valuable feedback / input. By the way, does anybody has the Ferrari product number of the standard front brake discs?
Christophe, Here is the data you require, basically as your discs are just above the 26mm mark there would be not enough material to machine them and keep above the minimum thickness of 26mm.
Velocityengineer, welcome to the site,if you check my profile you will see we have something in common. Dave Mc
Dear Ferraristi, Geezzzz ! Gestapo or what. Ya'll need to live in the US. We remove our cats when no one is looking ( not me or course ! ) Shamile
Hi Chistophe, stock is fine unless you go on the racetrack. How did the old discs behave around Andermatt? forza cinque
@ Shamile, You are right!! It's simply anoying the way they control us here! But it's live ... @ Cinque, Since the pace was quite slow, I did not had any major problem in Andermatt. I was however getting some vibrations in the steering wheel when braking. But nothing very important. Last Friday, I got the front discs replaced. They were anyway only 0.2 mm above the lower limit. So since the local Ferrari dealer gave me a quite good price (only 20% more than for a similar job on my Volvo), I went for a replacement with stock (Brembo) discs. The feeling is now ... whouah. No vibration, good breaking. I'm almost re-discovering my car. The most important thing is that now I'm really paying attention to : - Cool down the discs before stoping the engine; - Not washing the car when hot. So. It should help avoiding to warp the discs again (luckily). Bye for now, Christophe.
Before I brought my car to the dealer for the front discs replacement, I checked all fours wheels, discs, brakes pads, ... During this check-up, I noticed that my rear right brake disc has a crack (2cm long). It's quite surprising to get a crack on (1) Rear discs (2) that are not drilled. Did anybody had a similar problem on a F355? Christophe. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Christophe, one case I remember: cracked disc + brocken wheel bearing. Maybe both to hot and the grease boiled out. Don't use the cracked rear disc any longer. Try to do "cool down laps" even after street use and never wash a hot 355. forza cinque
I am a little late with this info, but thought some of you may still want the data as stamped on the edge of my front rotor. 00 95A BB Min thickness 1.0236" or 26mm Brembo 160051 5L Regards, cwwhk
