I previously posted this query asking for recommendations for good Dallas-area lawyers... got one response (thanks, Jim!)... but thought many of the DFW contingent might not frequent the Business & Investments forum... so, I thought I'd try here.
    ========

I am about to form a new company... for which I will need to find a good law firm to:

    1) Set up the company, advising on structure (LP vs Corp, etc.)
    2) General business contracts, NDAs, sales contracts, etc.
    3) File trademarks
    4) File patents
    5) Defend patents and trademarks

The latter is, of course, where patent law firms separate themselves... its one thing to get a patent filed... its entirely another to successfully defend that patent... until you litigate and win, the rubber hasn't really hit the road.

Can anyone recommend a great Dallas-area law firm?
    Opinions on Fish & Richardson?
    Opinions on Baker Botts?
    Opinions on Haynes and Boone?
    Opinions on Thompson & Knight?

Can anyone recommend a particular Dallas-area lawyer who is particularly good?

    What's more important...
to find the right individual lawyer (independent of firm)
or to find the the right law firm (independent of which lawyer)?

For a company that is starting out small, how important is it to find one law firm that can handle all business issues? (versus selecting an IP specialist)

Finally, how important is it that the firm we choose NOT represent any of the companies that the principals of this new company have previously been employed (on the off chance there is a IP dispute causing a conflict of interest)??

    Brian,
I am a former Baker Botts patent attorney. I now work for another firm, but I have good knowledge of the best IP shops in town. Feel free to send me a PM and we can talk. My current firm has terrific lawyers and a strong client base. I am a trial attorney at my new firm, but we also have some very good patent lawyers as well.

Would any of these listed be good for me and a VERY small business? I have my company, but I need to clean some things up and might change the structure a little bit. If there is a local 7-11 of business lawyers, I need one.

    Thanks,
    rob

I have attorneys which are in a large firm and do all of my personal and business legal work. They are very well respected throughout the state but don’t seem to charge exorbitant rates.

Gene handles my personal and is my one point of contact for all my legal needs.

A good Dallas Business attorney that handles small business needs is Kelly Hollingsworth, he is a partner at Glast, Phillips and Murray. His fees are reasonable. Kelly's phone number is 972.419.7180

He handles all my legal needs for my business and my personal. He also works with a good number of my clients, most of my clients are business owners and he works well with them.

If you have any more specific questions feel free to PM me. I have worked with this guy a long time.
