    POLO!

On Sunday, September 19, we'll be having a drive, lunch and Polo viewing of the Ferrari Maserati Cup polo match at Myopia Polo, Hamilton, MA, sponsored by Ferrari Maserati of New England. We'll start with a nice scenic drive through several scenic towns on the North Shore, including Manchester-By-the-Sea, Gloucester, Rockport, Essex, Ipswich and Topsfield. We'll stop for lunch at Woodman's, famous for inventing the fried clam. After we consume mass quantities of seafood, we'll press onwards to spectate on the oldest existing polo field in the US.

Free admission to everyone driving Ferraris and Maseratis! "The Polo Club’s lush fields and tall evergreens are evidence of the long tradition of the sport. The first match was played here in 1888 on the oldest existing polo field in the United States. This is the 116th season of Myopia Polo, 1888-2003, and will offer spectators some of the finest competitive polo in the country." Polo starts at 3pm, the gates open at 1:30 pm, and we’ll arrive around 2:00 pm. We will have reserved parking for Ferraris and Maseratis right along the edge of the field. The match lasts until about 5:00pm - and then there is an awards ceremony, with all children receiving a free souvenir. There will be two club teams competing for the Ferrari Maserati Cup. Also, there is a tradition at half-time where the audience is invited onto the field for divot stomping!

In case of rain, the rain-date would be the next Sunday, the 26th. If there is inclement weather, you may phone the POLO info line: 978.468.7656 (POLO) for a recorded message regarding weather cancellation. Attendees should be prepared for sun, and dress is business casual; jeans and t-shirts not recommended - shorts, capris, khakis and collared-shirts for men. Blankets or chairs are encouraged and there will be pavilion seating available.

If you can't meet us for the drive and lunch, please feel free to meet us at the club. Tailgating is encouraged - bring a picnic. Beer and wine are acceptable. The setting is beautiful and attendees can arrive early. Come and enjoy the afternoon at the Ferrari Maserati Cup!

We’ll meet at 11:00 am in the parking lot outside of Barnes & Noble/Starbucks, adjacent to the North Shore Mall in Peabody (intersection of Rt. 114 and Rt. 128). We'll be using Motorola (FRS) radios on the drive, so bring one if you have one (channel 3, code 8), and make sure you've filled your gas tank! If you plan on attending, please send an email to Dennis Liu, Mass. Chapter President, at [email protected].

If you’re headed directly to the club: from the north, take I-95 S. to Rt-133 E. Travel Rt-133 E. Rt-1A joins 133. Stay on Rt-1A S. through Ipswich and on to Hamilton. Look for the Polo Grounds on left, approximately 2.5 mi. after the Hamilton town line. From the south, take Rt-128 N. to Exit 20A - intersection of Rt-1A N. Travel Rt-1A N. for 3.8 miles through North Beverly, Wenham, and South Hamilton. The Myopia Polo Grounds will be on your right. It is well marked with a sign.

Yes, I know it's the same day as the show in West Roxbury (and the two dates conflicted last year too), but this date was selected over the winter has been publicized by the Club for months - couldn't change it, alas. Maybe we'll be better coordinated next year!

Anyone else want to extend the drive from the Wellesley/Weston (i.e. 128 Northbound) area up to the North Shore Mall?

Yep - Woodmans does fried chicken as well as all the seafood. Not much that isn't fried apart from Lobster Rolls...

Its a pity we won't make this year's event. It was great fun last year.
