Yasir, Don't ask for a ride on the board. Instead, come to any one of our drives or get-togethers, and I am 100% certain that someone would give you a ride and most probably let you drive. Don't be afraid to ask, just ask in person. Also, bc if someone says 'YES' on a board, the whole world will be asking that Ferrari owner for rides/drives. David
David hit the nail on the head. It is one of those things that you have to do in person at one of our events. I hope that your impression of our board is not negative, especially within the Tri-state.
David, I live in KY and the nearest dealership is either Atlanta or Chicago and they are both nearly 6 hrs from me.My schedule is always pretty tight and i don't feel like driving 6 hrs just to test drive a car. However having said that i once drove to cleveland (9 hrs) to this dealership who had both a 1991 & a 1994 Porsche Turbo, which is very rare and i thought it was an excellent oppurtunity to drive both cars back to back to see which one i like. Anyway i have requested this before in the KY regional section as well but got no responses. However since i will be in NY this weekend so i thought surely some one in NY might give me a chance to look at the car upclose but i guess i'll just have to wait. Thanks for the offer though but i have decided to just wait for now. Yasir
There are dealers in Ohio and North Carolina. I would think one of these is closer, depending on where you live in KY.
I did my residency training in NYC ( 4 years ) so yeah i am pretty familiar with new york life style and nah i'm not surprised with the response i got. Yasir
Ouch! Why do we love each other so much, and others not so. Do they not understand us, or is NYTS out of touch with a newer paradigm?
I think the response was positive overall give the situation, you cant expect to make a first post in a section asking to drive someones car and someone just saying yes over the internet.. doesnt work that way
Rememer the final piece of Seinfeld? the gang got in trouble in some remote state for not helping an old lady who was getting robbed, Seinfeld called his lawyer back in NY, the lawyer said "what? that's non-sense, you do not help people if you don't want to, that's what america is all about." ok now joke aside, since i saw the comments about "NY life style and not being surpised by the response", i feel i should chip in my 2 cents. i am a straight shooter so i ain't gonna sugarcoat this, and i apologize in advance if it offends you. first of all, no one owns anyone a ride, so to comment on "NY life style" after not getting satisfactory response isn't making any sense. 2nd, as ppl already pointed out, asking in person will be much more proper than online, i don't see why anyone would offer their Ferrari(unless ur super rich it doesn't mean more than a "car" to you) to a stranger upon a request over internet. 3rd'ly, it's not about your maturity or driving skill, you can be schumi, but there are other idiots out there on the road, so there is never gurantee what can happen. when something does happen, it's gonna really suck for the owner. that being said, i hop you understand why there isn't much confirmed taker on your request. btw, if i were you, a doc with passion and knowledge for fast cars, i will simply go rent a F355 for day, prolly cost like 8 bills but u get to beat it however you wish. just a thought.
You really expect one to take few days off work, fly to LV/FL or where ever they rent the 355 and then take one out for a day and then fly back the following day,i don't agree with that.I guess if i didn't have a wife & 2 kids,31 mth & 18 mth i probably would have done that too but with young kids it's not that easy. Secondly unlike others i don't need a whole day to figure out if i like the car or not,i drove the Porsche just once and i knew i wanted one so i bought it.Fortunately i know exactly what i want in a car (atleast 360 rwtq) and since 355 doesn't have that so i i have a feeling i might not even like it but then again i just have to wait until i drive one. Btw i didn't mean to offend any one with my NY life style comment but that's the truth, new york in general is a tough place and it's hard for people to trust each other.Having said that look at the date when i first joined this site so would that not have made any difference? Any way yeah i got the message and yeah i'll probably rent one when ever i get a chance and yeah that's a nice silver Ferarri you got their udalmia, wink. Yasir
I don't. But IF you are coming to New York ANYWAY, I don't see how it's THAT much of trouble to rent one in NY. Why would you even REMOTELY consider a Ferrari if you are looking for 360+ lb/ft of torque at the wheels?? F355 obviously does not come close to that. IMO, "trust" is between friends/family for people who KNOW eachother. The word "trust" shoudln't even exsit betwen 2 strangers. but that's my opinion only of course.
The NY comment really pissed me off (intentional or not) when I read it but I just said so be it, this thread would drop down, but it hasn't. It is just that people do not let strangers drive their cars. I totally agree with Chris (WOODEAR), rent one and be done with it. Most exotic car rental places rent their cars for a few hours.
have u ever thought about what would happen to the owner of the 355 if u drove it and wrecked it? would u pay for all the damages? your answer would probably be NO. who wants to take this kind of risk on someone they dont even know at all? it's a different story if the owner of the 355 lets his friends drive it. if u cant find anyone to let u take one for a ride, id say rent one for a day like woodear stated.
I agree with Hubert. I think a total stranger has a lot of Balls to ask people he does not know to drive their cars! It smells fishy to me. All he has to do is go to a dealer and tell them he's interested in a 355. The dealer (I know FOLI) would let him drive it as long as he has proper ID. Something very strange here.......The story doesn't make sense.
exactly. and EVEN IF let's say you bring a bag of $90G in cash with you, and give me that money when the unfortunate happens, i STILL can not just go out there and buy a similar car with the money instantly. that's the difference between ferrari and other cars, it's hard to find a nice car/clean car, some people spends months minimum even years to get a perfect car they like. it sux to be without a car when something happens even if u 100% take care of teh situation. if you want to drive my m3, go ahead, bad things happens i can go buy a replacement the next day, ferrari isn't the same.
I agree with Gary and most others here on this issue. Something just doesn't add up correctly... Also, here's a piece of advice from a recent experience of mine; DO NOT LEND YOUR CAR(S) OUT!!! Everyone here knows why I'm saying that... 'nuff said.
Then you don't want it bad enough. When I got my GT-3 I was on a plane TO GERMANY the next day after I met someone that had one for sale for export. If you want it bad enough, you do it. The ride offer still stands...
Gary, Man you are a genious,do you know you just saved these people from getting robed, excellent thinking. To all others, I completely understand all the concerns and yes you guys are all right any way,my apologies for offending you all and yeah i got pissed too but i am fine now, every thing is cool again. Black355, Thanks for the offer but i have decided i would rather spend time with my family than looking at the cars after all it's my family time and i'm suppose to be on vacation. TTG, It was very nice talking to you and thats the spirit/enthusiasm/reaction i really expected and many thanks for the offer.Btw you got a very nice & rare car, watch out for the strangers,j/k. Yasir
Good to see that this is resolved. Good luck with your car search. You will find the car you are looking for.
