I have never driven a diablo, so unless they "feel" better to my hands, I would choose a 355. That said I voted diablo since I think it will feel better....

You dont have to install new clutches unless you cant drive an in/out clutch. That being said, a clutch change in a 92 Diablo is 6k. Dont listen to the stories that you hear. Not that 6k is cheap, but I have never put a clutch in a Diablo with over 200k miles total logged.

Early Diablos have alot of issues up to 95.

Anything on a Lamborghini parts or repair is much more than a 12 cylinder Ferrari and some parts are hard to find and rare, you could wait months for them.A clutch alone is $5k unless you want to cheap out and rebuild the discs and reuse the pressure plate and intermediate plate, labor is 40 hrs at least. Lambos are a very hard car to work on so everything is expensive.

They made a ton of 355s so parts are cheap and plentifull, even used parts are available, forget it on a Lambo, I went thru this on my Boxer as well no used parts and limited expensive replacement parts.

You could daily drive a 355 forget it in a Lambo.

Not my experience or costs , or even close. My 6 TR's cost much more in service cost than any early Diablo. I had a 91, 93, and 2 94's. The Lambo parts are more expensive for sure, and take longer to get. But no comparison in the required service or routine maintenance costs. Just actual experience, nothing else. As I said, never had a engine out in 200k miles of trouble free Diablo driving. As I also said, a 7year newer 355 should be much cheaper to maintain, unless you take depreciation into account, then probably about equal. It just depends on your intended use of the car. A 99 355 would be a likely better daily driver.

For daily car, go w/ 355 since it is 7 years newer.

For what your heart desire, go w/ Diablo. You may not have a good time with the car after purchase, but you'll cherish being the owner of one of the super exotic cars. How many Diablo do you see compared w/ 355 everyday? I was told Diablo before '97 production was problem proned, but 6.0 said otherwise.

I've used my 365 GT4 as a daily driver before. I think both of these would be as reliable.

Save up, buy both. Two very different experiences.

Even though I think the 355 is one of the greatest designs to come from the factory, I went with the Lambo. I like Ferrari's which is why I own one, but I picked the Diablo because, a) NO TIMING BELT, b) more exotic, c) faster & quicker, d) better value for the money. The 355 may be the newer of the two but they still aren't without problems. The headers suck big time no matter how new the car is. Then we have the slow power window issue, the problems that pop up with the suspension settings, the valve guide issues, and since it is a spider some have had problems with the top closing properly. Yes the clutch on a Diablo will cost $6,000 to change, but the 355 is no cheaper. The flywheel for a 355 is easy $3,200 if you cook the insides because the grease got flug out. Then as a result of that you would burn the clutch, which is another $1,000 added to the bill. So just in parts that's at least $4,200. But lets not forget the throw out bearing which is another $500 bucks. Then you have to pay for all the labor to R&R it at $100/hr, and we haven't even changed the belts yet which is another $6,000 at the dealer, and they want you to do that every 30k miles. Let's not sugar coat this. No, having the choice I would take the Diablo. I'll take my chances with my ability to properly use the clutch thank you.

    Apparently you like Diablos.

This Diablo has the optional wing.

Do you honestly want the wing, or would you rather wait for a Diablo that doesn't have added cost, weight or drag?

Yes I do like the Diablo better than the 355. This doesn't mean I don't like the 355. I would take a 355 over a 360, but that wasn't the question. There isn't anything wrong with liking something other than a Ferrari. I didn't base my preferance only on emotion. I took into account cost also. Now I don't own a Diablo yet, but I'm betting it will be cheaper in the long run than owning a 355. Especially when you do not have stupid timing belts to deal with, or flywheels that are packed with grease.

    355.
Newer, more reliable car... means I can drive it, unlimited by fear of being stranded.
Not quite as exotic, but very classy... again, means I can drive it most anywhere.
A lighter, more dextrous car... means it will do well enough at autocross and on the track, so I'll be happy to take it to such events as well as road rallys and such.
Its a Ferrari... and with that comes participation in the great Ferrari community, which again means more great events to drive the car in.

For you... what do you want to DO with the car??
\Then decide based on which one better supports you DOING that!

You'd have to figure another $6000 for decent wheels on that Diablo- the stocker phone-dials are aweful.

I'd go F355, the image of a local Diablo Roadster broken down near my work, getting pulled onto a flatbed is seared into my brain. The owner is local... I believe that he now has a 360CS. He may be a member on this site. ?...

The Lambo wins hands down between those two. The 12 cylinder engine alone makes it more desirable . The 355 was an evolution of the 348 and had many of the problems of the 348. That being said, I would get neither. I would buy a 550 or Boxer or 330GTC or 365GTC4 or some other 12 cylinder Ferrari in that price range.

I voted for the Diablo, and agree the rims should be updated. A '92 Diablo
will come without power steering, so it should be a bit more raw in that regard
than even later Diablos. There's also the weird dash of the early cars.

The 355 spyder is very tempting though. Certainly wasn't an easy choice. If
track driving is a big factor, this could be a swaying factor. You didn't mention
    it though...

But don't take my words for it....I have driven neither car :)

And yes, Erik is right. Buy both. That's always the best answer to these problems.

    Do what'll make you happy.

If you're limited to those choices, the 355.

If you could get a 6.0, then HANDS DOWN. Seriously, no contest.

Sorry I know my friends of Ultimate Motorworks in Longwood Fl. for over 18 years and I don't buy your bull... I dont think also that there is a clutch that will last 200,000 miles in a super sports car. Again I don't buy your bull.
I would take the diablo over the 355 spyder.

What "bull " dont you buy? Who said anything about a clutch lasting 200k in a car? Please explain. Before you try to insult someone, get your facts , not the "I know someone ......". I have owned the cars. Thats my experience.

I have posted maintenance and repairs on the 8 Diablos I have owned. Never an engine out or clutch in over 200k miles TOTAL logged.

Now if you thought I was referring to a particular Diablo having 200k without a clutch, you misunderstood my post, and did not read the post prior to that one. Either way, I don't appreciate your comments.

I voted for Diablo. Simply because I like the ultra exotic looks of it. :)
