If you have read any of my stuff, you know that I have logged over 200,000 miles in 8 Diablos, with average maintenance cost per year at $2800. No clutch ever, no engine out ever. hmmm. And its a V12 Lambo, not a Fiero wannabe. Have you ever bought one of these POS cars? They begin to fall apart before 100 miles. They are garbage. And most will laugh at you, because they know what you are trying to do. Its a joke.

As a percentage of their wealth, I am sure Lambo owners are paying much less than someone with a replicar.

I did not mean no disrespect or attack in my post, what i meant was, you have owned these cars for a long time and are regarded as the expert here when it comes to Lamborghini, when it comes to running costs wich a lot of people who buy/build these cars must take into consideration, the cost of running a v6 VS v12 plays a big part, insurance, mpg, parts all add up to people who are less well of than people who can afford to run the real thing, the cars that you own have been reliable, but there are some people who build these cars who could not afford $2800 a year on top of other associated costs to do with the upkeep of their cars.

I don't know what blows my mind more? That you put so many miles on per year, or that you do them in Diablos? I am just in awe! Dude, move closer to work!

So, would you say Lambos are more reliable than Ferraris, even going back into the 80's?

    Best!

I have NEVER had a serious problem with a Diablo. Never had an engine out. The F cars I have owned included many TR's, 512 TR, 348. F-40. Had many, many engines out of the cars. Now the Countach is a bit different. I would compare the TR's and Countaches as close when it comes to upkeep and repairs, with a slight edge to the Countach for overall reliability.

the main disadvatage of this car is the fact is it is not a lambo!!!!!i dont care what engine you put in it, its still not a real lambo..and to pay 108k for it? you would have to be crazy..and who says this kit car is going to be so reliable?if you cant afford a lambo, at least buy another real sports car like a viper or vette or m3 or p car or what ever.....

Take a look at this guy.

Calls it an Italian car, ya right!

It's a Pantera, and I know for a fact that there's a FORD MOTOR in it.

    What a poser!

I’m surprised that no one had posted this yet. Not bad but I’d hate to think what the finishing cost would be.

    http://www.powertothepurple.com/250gto.htm

1962 GTO Style Sports Car- Corvette Suspension Components - Hand Formed Aluminum Body - Tube Chassis - LS1 6 Speed.

Tube chassis - is rolling chassis but with C-4 Corvette front and rear suspension components. Includes Borrani wheels (new)RW 4326, Appleton power rack and pinion steering and coil over shocks with torsion bars.

Body - is hand formed aluminum. Rear end is fitted to chassis. Front end is complete and finished but not fitted. Door skins need to be fabricated. Roof is steel. All light assemblies are present. Side and rear windows are Lexan.

Interior - dash is fiberglass. Veglia tach and guages, Aluminum racing seats. Shifter is stock LS1

The chassis and body were built by (or for) previous owners, I was not given the names of these very talented craftsmen. I know the body panels were built sometime in the eighties then changed hands a couple of times before the owner had the tube chassis built. By the early to mid ninties the car was close to it's current condition, when I purchased it in 1999 or 2000.

Car is approximately 80% completed requiring some fabrication, wiring harness and completion of exhaust and plumbing for brakes and clutch.

Most replicas are indeed what they are! replicas, and they don't always look very good! but the way one has to look at it, they honor the original vehicle they mock-up and often provide countless hours of joy to the person (s) putting them together.

you've got your words mixed around. i would say they usually mock the honor of the real vehicle. a lamborghini with a feiro engine for instance is no kind of compliment at all.

not talking about the quality so much as the fact it smacks of another scam. but why use a replica for a scam?

    wow just read all this.

some of you lot really dont like replicas do you.

im not too keen myself on some of them, i mean why turn an mr2 into an f355, it'll never look right etc.

    BUT

im interested to hear what people think of what im posting below, especially the people who said stuff like this

    http://www.ferraris-online.com/cars/FE-250GTO-3781/main.shtml

yes its a replica but is almost indistinguishable from an original 250 GTO.
Its been built using the chassis of a real ferrari 250 gt/e converted to gto specs on everything including the engine and 5 speed gearbox

My view is well known on this ... I hate people that make these more, because a genuine Ferrari has been destroyed, just because they wanted to play big noter.

One day we will go to a car meeting and the only old Ferraris on display will be 250GTO replicas ... how boring.

    Pete
ps: Try the search facility and you will get heaps of discussion on these wrecks. No matter how well done and by whom, all credibility that that collectible car once had has gone down the toilet. Might as well used a Datsun chassis.

You CAN make replicas that look, drive and perform like an original ... without destroying an original. After all a 250GTO is just a few pieces of metal welded together ... just make a bloody chassis, you don't need to butcher an existing chassis.
