Help please! driving along in my 512TR when I lost all instruments and warning lights and the engine only running on 6 cylinders. managed to get it home, about 5 miles. Advice given was first to check charging system, all OK. next, fuse box, cleaned all fuses to no avail, however, I pulled out the two relays, labelled Q&U that control the Motronic circuit, sprayed a little electrolube on them and car fired up immediately! only problem is that the numbers on the relays are different to the ones listed in the handbook,I'd like to replace these relays, should I go by the book or replace the type in the car? many thanks for any help.

Do you have a manufacturer's name/number from the relays in question? Other 512TR owners could cross-check/verify, or it might be a legitimate equal substitution.

By "handbook" do you mean the correct corresponding year/model/version OM? My experience is that the WSM stuff tends to get fixed to an early point in a model's life; whereas, any later changes are better documented in the OMs (although those aren't always error-free either).

I'm not familiar with the 512TR wiring diagram, but I'd guess that something that takes out both the instrument lights and part of the injection control system is more upstream in the power distribution network, but just a guess -- e.g., just the act of removing and replacing a relay gives a pretty good wiggle to the PCB/other connectors/etc..

They are Bosch relays - The number on the relay should be 0 332 019 140
    - Ferrari part number 175318

The relays that were in the car were 0332 015 006, the hand book says they should be 0332 014 140, I've had the car five years, this is the first time I've had any problem with it. vin no ZFFLA40C000092524

one other thing, although I had no instruments or warning lights, when I first tried to restart the car, the '7/12 cyl' lamp lit up, car would start easily but was running on 6cyls, I only touched the fuses and the two relays and that seemed to cure it...........................

Time to open up the fuse board and start tracing the PCB behind it. The 512TR has a dodgy setup when it comes to it's PCB behind the fuse board, it's not the best build unit on the car.

Is it difficult to get at the PCB, and is it possible to cure problems or does it need replacing? I'll try most things but auto electrics are not my favourite!

its possible to fix but not always, when you see the price of a new one you will be motivated to at least try :)

Malcolm -- I know that ...006 relay, but I can't find anything at all on that ...140 relay anywhere. Does it have any of the usual hieroglyphics on the case showing the internal configuration or specs? Just curious...

the relays that have been in the car since I've owned it,are type.0332 015 006, 12V, 2x15A, have a large blue letter 'K' painted on case? according to Ferrari UK, car should use type 0332 014 140 relays, 12V 30A, I really dont know if these differences are very important, car has been running well for years..............
