"The car was stored in a casket-like box."

Isn't this going to set off a serious "grave-digging" process searching for the car? I can just imagine the headlines when some guy gets caught digging up the car........

That makes me wonder.. as far as the feds are concerned who's property is it that's buried in the ground?

I mean i'm not sure if there are seperate laws for "grave stealing" or whatever but I do know that for something to be stolen, it has to have been owned by someone.

Funeral was cheaper than I would have thought. Only $17,000.

About ten years ago there was a guy in England named Lord Brocket who had a Ferrari collection. He got in financial trouble so he cut up one of his vintage Ferraris and buried it on his estate. He then reported it as stolen and and filed for insurance. He got caught and went to prison. I do not know what happened to the "stolen" Ferrari.

I'm sure that, to the average on-looker and funeral attendee, it appeared to be a run-of-the-mill 250 GTE.:)

I think you're thinking of Alexander Bernard Harris, seen here as displayed at his funeral services behind the wheel of his Momo Edition Lamborghini Diablo. He was not burried in the car, however.

    Found this on the web:

"Perhaps the most infamous dead miser is millionaire oil heiress Sandra Ilene West, who was buried in her lace negligee behind the wheel of her powder blue 1964 Ferrari. She made the burial arrangements herself, down to having the car seat "set in a comfortable position," refusing to pass on a single cent of her inheritance unless her instructions were followed to the letter. A deceptively plain slab in the Alamo Masonic Lodge Cemetery in San San Antonio, Texas marks her grave."

I saw a picture of her funeral recently on TV and the casket looked like a block of concrete and was it being hoisted by a sizable crane into the ground. I think she died at about age 37 or so.

Kinda sorry we missed getting to know her here on the "Chat"... it sounds like she was an interesting person and she must have liked Ferrari ... Oh well.

    Best wishes

Harris looks pretty good in requiem considering that he was shot in the head. Kudos to the funeral home!

His eyes are bulging out and its freaking me out. That's disturbing. I've honestly thought about this before though, can you get buried in a car.

I remember reading about this incident when it happened...the lady who was buried in the 330 America was aware that it had collector car potential and had the car and herself encased in a specially designed concrete vault...$17,000.00 went a lot farther then.
