August 3 (1999). Judge Suzanne Covington granted the Coordinating Board's motion for summary judgment and included an injunction against the majority of the governance provisions of the affiliation agreement, including the use of Texas A&M University's name by South Texas. The injunction did not affect the academic portions of the agreement, leaving intact the linking of the libraries, faculty exchanges, three-three programs, and joint degrees. South Texas and Texas A&M University announced plans to appeal.

Basically, A&M tried an end run around the Texas Coordinating Board by creating an "affiliation" that didn't go through the proper channels and was slapped down. I have not found anything more recent that indicates the injunction was successfully appealed.

Good luck on the lsat. I took the June one, and it's nice to have it over with. Of course, it seems like a chore until you factor in the amount of prep time/importance of the BAR. The lsat looks like a cakewalk comparatively.

I'm a senior now, so I'll be applying with you this winter. I have a list of 10 places, but I need to trim that to ~5. I'm still conflicted between going to a state school like LSU with a total tuition cost of $30,000, or a more prestigious east coast school that would run closer to 100K. I'm keeping the area of practice open, but litigation sounds like the most interesting now.

    Where are you applying?

Studying for the bar exam is not fun, but the Texas bar exam is not really hard IMHO. The bar review classes are so good. If you attend a comprehensive review class and do what they tell you to do, you will pass with no problems. That being said, I know many people who didn't devote their full attention to preparation and failed.

I found it less stressful than the LSAT because it's basically pass/fail. With the LSAT, it was so competitive it really stressed me out.

That's a valid point. What about the duration of most bar exams? Generally aren't they about 3 or 4 days long @ 8 hours of testing/day? You're probably broken in after studying for only one test per class over three years though. What are your thoughts TC?

It's a 3 day test, and I think it's roughly 8 hours of testing per day, maybe a half day on day 3.

The testing time absolutely flies by. You are always time pressured (at least for the written essay parts) so the test does not feel long. The hard part is going home at night and trying to sleep. I almost wished they would just administer the test in one straight 20 hour period. LOL

I basically approached it as a 9-5 thing. Each day of the 6 weeks before the exam I went to bar review class in the morning, ate lunch, studied in the afternoon. It's not a lot like law school exams. The volume of information you need to have in your head is unbelievable. Slow and steady wins the race.

California is reported to have one of the harder bar exams, but I think the same approach would prove successful for most people who are smart enough to go to top 25 law schools.

I didn't mean to suggest that it's easy. It certainly isn't. It's a lot of work, just not very difficult work.
