I feel that as a group, we should have a charity that we support. There are a lot of charities such as Make-A-Wish, shriners, etc. I personally like charities that help kids.

    Any thoughts?

That would be a great Idea and very good publicity for this site. Maybe Rob could do something like have an amount above the normal rate that would be donated to a charity every year. Many people think of high end car owners as in it for themselves greedy types and this would look good. Maybe we could do this year for MD and Rob could present a check to Jerry Lewis on T.V next labor day, That would be pretty cool

A really nice charity (despite what Speedy says), might be something like "Make a Wish Foundation". In addition to a financial contribution, maybe we'd offer terminally ill children rides in the cars throughout the country. The foundation would save money by having local access to cars, lots of sick kids might get a chance to ride in a Ferrari and bring a smile to their faces.

It wouldn't replace the financial contribution, but we could register our cars geographicaly and keep an ongoing picture thread of kids we've encountered.

Donations might be a good way to put the Left vs Right election war going on here to good use. I will start by putting up $100.00 for the Right, Will any of my Lefty combatants match me?

Make-a-wish, I'm certain is a great charity, but it certainly does not lack for sponsors.

I think a charity is a great idea, but it would be nice to pick one with which our contibution would make a difference...

Another thought, If we do start participating in a charity, prehaps our F-Chat dues could be bumped a buck or 2 and that would source alot of dependable money each year.

There are a lot of charities out there after our money, i am sure none of us mind donating, but to witch one? we all will have a different one in mind some will be close to our hearts, i myself would prefer to see cancer research get some help, obviously other members will want different charities to benefit, how about a poll of the top 5 reccomended by members here.

Maybe we need to support the "I once had a back injury so now I'm on permanant disability and I'm a lifelong burden to the taxpayer" charity.

I think supporting local orphanages is good. Its hard to imagine a kid with no 1 who cares about them growing up in 1 of those places. Knowing that a Ferrari Club cares about them would make a huge difference in kids lives which would last throughout their lives & ultimately help society

IMHO, charity work and giving should be left to the individual. To suggest that 1) Rob give up his profit because others are feeling charitable with his money or 2) everyone should donate (though higher fees) to a particular charity is laughable. Especially the second point, this group couldn't come to a consenus on the color of the sky.

I'm certain that there are people doing great work with charities on this board, they just don't feel a need to trumpet it in a public forum.

I'm not laughing. I belong to a number of organizations that sponsor charities through a small portion of their dues.

I didn't say charity was a bad idea.

I said, I don't think that this group could come to a consensus on a charity, and to ask someone to support a charity in which they don't believe is laughable.

If Rob wants to set something up and say "I support the charity that provides testicular reconstruction for former professional bicycle riders, here's a paypal link if you want to help", then that's cool. For a group of people to say "Rob, your business needs to give money to the charity of our choice, and your users need to contribute to that same charity" is simply not right.

Charity is and should be a private matter.

It's up to each individual to do their best.

Speedy308 for the first time in seven years has retired his Child Advocates Race Team this season. He is very grateful for the NUMEROUS FChatters that have supported him (quietly) in the past. The event is this weekend at Momentum Porsche on their test track. The Ferrari karts rest quietly in the shop. They will be attending FFQC, with Zupra.

He's even parked the Art Car (Orange Show Foundation for Visionary Art) for maintenance, but will make the Orange Show Gala on 11/06/04 with Mr. Buddy Guy rockin' da house.

Speedy308 wanted me to thank Mad Hatter, WILLIAMH, Solipsist, F512M, Dr. Tax, Eurotrash and the many Fchatters for their encouragement, assistance, and good wishes on both the kart team and the Art Car.

Zupra is still trying to make it to New Orleans! Send him some love!!!!
He wants to take his Mom to the FFQC Ball........

Bingo! I feel the same way, which is why I neither discuss
the charities I contribute to, nor do I claim deductions for
    them on my taxes.
