The Factory shields like on the 288GTO and F40 and 355 Serie Fiorano are all bolted on, into recessed indentions in the fenders.

Not alone. I, too, am not a fan of shields on regular production cars.

Besides the better underhood heat extraction, the black mesh contrast to the paint color is slick,

When I first saw the shields I thought they cluttered the appearence as well, but after having them, I would not order a car without them.

    Interesting question.

I always liked them on special cars like the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, 360 CS etc.. I have seen them on regular cars like the 360, 550, 575 etc..

I also always thought that the shields should be kept for the special cars that Ferrari decides to build and not be put on every Ferrari for then the special cars lose something.

But now I feel that the cool thing that Ferrari is doing is allowing all of us to have them built to our desires more than Ferrari's choice. One thing I have always admired about Porsche is you as the buyer can build your car to your choice not their's. So I now see an option like the fender shields as cool and special to the person who wants them. And I also have always believed that Ferraris are truly special cars and great cars to be able to buy and enjoy. It has a look like no other, a sound like no other and at the end of every time I drive my car I can't help but smile. It is brillant period.

    Shields are the cars jewlery

If i was a ferrari, having the scuderia shields is like wearing a rolex.

I'd feel naked out of the house without it.

Every ferrari needs to have badges so people wouln't have to ask if it was a Probe.

    Whatever floats your boat.
I would not own one without shields unless it were not an option and I would only own a car with factory shields. I like the way they have the metal work recessed to fit the shields.

Shields are a personal choice. They always look good but much better from the factory because of the metal on the fender being stamped. If that is your reason to have shields, to identify it as a Ferrari, then your truly not into cars. If someone doesn't know a Ferrari by looking at it, then they should stick to driving their Camrys. There is a law about people who confuse a Probe with a Ferrari or anything else with a Ferrari, but I forget the punishment. Anyone remember what the penality is?

I agree with the factory sheilds. The stick-ons or magnetic just don't look right, especially when they are placed off-centered, it reminds me of SUV owners that put the 4 X 4 sticker on the back fender. Leave the car to look like it was meant to look like. We all know it's a ferrari

based upon the above posts, is it possible to remove factory installed shields without having a botched up metal surface on the fenders? Sounds as if one cannot do that...

IMO red is the best Ferrari color, but Black is the best color with the badges. I just love me a black CS.

The front fender is "stamped" (indented) and the shield is installed in the recessed area. If you were a complete idiot and you didn't like the shields, you could take a pointy screw driver and pry it off and you would be left with a dented front fender and a missing shield. I guess thats what you have left if someone tried to steal the shields. The after market ones are magentic or stick on type. They come off and on. The factory shields are very nice. Don't know of anyone that would want to or has removed them and had body work done and the fender painted just to get the shield off. I guess that answers your question.
