Was the Ferrari F40 ever offered by the factory in any other color other than red? I have seen it in many other colors but they could of been repainted.

I have heard it only came in red, But there was a picture floating around
a couple of years ago of a repaint in black.

The thread right below this one has a bunch of pictures of F40s in colors ranging from red to white, blue, light blue, black, gray and yellow... So far as i know, all the F40s were made in red...

I've been told they were all red except the last 5 were yellow. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I'm quite sure that ALL F40s left the factory with a RED paint. So, if you see another colour, it's a repaint ...

Not really, the sultan of Brunei ordered F40's of varying colours from the factory.

Most of the Brunei cars left the factory as NORMAL cars (mainly RHD UK versions), then went to Pininfarina who modified them for the Sultan. I think that also happened with the Sultan's F40s ...

Edit: the F40s left the factory as LHD cars, as they never made any RHD cars. The VIN of those cars confirm that they were originally LHD.

Were the F40's originally red and then repainted?

Steve: that's at least the story I heard and the story I trust most (= reliable sources), so that's what I believe. But you never know with Ferrari ;)

Ok well considering, in the early '90's, that no one had as much money as the Sultan, hes probly the only guy to ever have an F40 paited what ever color he wanted...stock paint...

There was an article in Automobile magazine (I think) back in the early 90's when the F40 hit US shores. There was a photo of a few dozen F40's together (what a sight!) and 1 or 2 were yellow.

The article stated that all but a few (I can't remember 1-5?) of the F40's produced BY THE FACTORY were red with the ONLY other color being yellow.

Up until that time, I had figured that they were all red, but this article and the pics seem to be pretty definitive.
