Ferrari model plastic or resin kits

Wow..thats opening pandoras box!

There is soooo much to chose from when it comes to kits..there are many many different ways to begin

Do you have model building experience? painting exp??

If what you are asking is how to get started in building kits, forget resin for now..go buy a bunch of cheap plastic kits (ebay or habby store..doesn't matter..as long as they are really cheap)

buy like 3-6 of them..and experiment. try different types of glues..try different types of paint and primers...then trash the models

Only then, go out and buy some cool kits. I like the large scale 1/12 Tamiya Ferraris..then try some resins

 

TAMIYA
Tamiya is the way to go. They fit better than any other brand. Their instructions are second to none. And the quality of the moldings are supreme. Their only downfall is their variety.

I tend to agree with the previous poster; Tamiya kits and supplies are about the best there are. Tamiya "rattle can" lacquers are the easiest spray paints to get a good result with that I've ever seen.

I've had a lot of experience with plastic kits but have never built a resin kit, I think resin tends to be more difficult for a beginner.

Italeri, Testors/Italeri, Revell Germany, and Gunze Sangyo are all good manufacturers for Ferrari models. If you're into Vintage, they'll have to come off ebay since most vintage plastic Ferrari kits are discontinued now. It's not hard to get good models on ebay.

Just so the moderators don't get too upset, I am apologizing first. But since the original poster wanted to know where to buy resin models I am forced to answer...............you can buy them from me.

I carry resin Ferraris in every scale and probably have more selection then anybody. I specialize in all sports car resin but Ferrari is my FAVORITE!

I also design my own resin kits. And sell custom builts to any specifications and detail level.

Like I said, and I think most who know me will agree, I don't come on F-Chat so I can promote my business and sell my wears, I like getting involved in good F-Car conversation (and lately a little off-topic stuff) but resin Ferrari model kits is my livelihood.

You asked, I'm just keeping with the theme of the thread.

Also resin is no more difficult to work with then plastic. You are just limited to the glues you can effectively use. Resin is EASIER as far as painting is concerned. The prep work needs to be a little careful, like cleaning the parts good before painting. But when you paint there will be NO reaction to even the hottest automotive lacquers. Tamiya plastic models (any any regular plastic model) will melt if you hit them with straight lacquer. Not resin. The resin material my feel a little different when working with it but that is something that you get used to immediately. Its heavier and usually a little more brittle, but they are far from fragile.

I think a thread should be started that would attempt to list all styrene plastic assembly kits of Ferraris that have ever been available. This should not be an impossibly long list, and as a start, here is my collection:

I think this may be a more daunting job that you realize. There have been almost 10,000 different Ferrari models made, and of those, probably 40% are plastic or resin kits in various scales.

There were some excellent comprehensive listings (published in book form) a few years ago. I don't know of any serious attempt to update these listings -- for one thing, the books didn't sell that well.
