Hi guys, I am a long time Ferrari lover, but a new Ferrari owner. I just recently purchased a 84 Ferrari Mondial. I know, not the nicest, but it's a starter car for me. So, need a cool sound, does anybody have advice between a Tuba exhaust system and a Stebro. Sound, Price, looks, performance, etc? I need a new exhaust and I would like to make a good choice. Also does anybody know where I can get a quote for a tubi, or a general idea of what it would cost.

Congratulations on the Mondial purchase. Sound is very subjective and you can get a sampling at a local club gathering. I would suggest the Stebro or Ansa over the Tubi for your mondial. The biggest advantage Tubi has is looks as they are highly polished and show well on some models. That would not really be the case on 308 and Mondial series. Both the Stebro and Ansa will cost 50% less than a Tubi but if it is what you really want the go for it. Their are a couple of links on this website.

So basically, they sound the same but the TUBI is prettier and is 2x the price. My biggest selling point is the sound. I heard this 355 with the sweetest sound in the world with an aftermarket exhaust, but not sure which one it was. I really have never heard a Stebro or a Tubi, unless that 355 had one of these brands. But I guess I'll never know.

I've compared my 308QV's Stebro with a 308QV's Tubi, and they sound very nearly the same. However, my Stebro has the advantage of being able to take out the tip inserts (they're not removeable on the Tubi) at the track to REALLY make it more full flow and REALLY LOUD. I know one guy who actually likes to drive that way all the time.

As has been said, the Tubi looks nicer since it is polished, but on the 308's and Mondials (unless they're euro versions) you don't see anything but the tips anyway, so why pay the extra?

If you're an FCA (Ferrari Club of America) member, you're also entitled to a 10% discount on the Stebro.

Note that Stebro doesn't keep much ready-made stock, but instead often make-to-order, so it may take a bit longer to get your Stebro than a Tubi... but I didn't mind the wait (it took two and a half weeks for mine to arrive).

I agree that the Stebro does sound similar to a Tubi, but understand that none of them will make your car sound like a 355!

I would HIGHLY recommend checking the archives on some of the various problems with order fulfillment/customer service with Stebro. Their reputation in the past year has been pretty dismal. Read the threads, decide for yourself it is worth the possible hassles, versus the savings over Tubi....

There ARE some fans like Mike, who has had no problems whatsoever, but it seems that he has been in the minority lately.

    Me? Got a Tubi.

I have the Stebro on my GT4 and am very happy with the sound. I have heard (through my Alfa mechanic) that some people are complaining about the quality of the stebro.

I've just installed a new Stebro exhaust on my 328. I had no supply issues with Stebro only because I had the good fortune to acquire the unit from a fellow lister.

Initial universal comments from various car enthusiast folks is, "Wow! That sounds fantastic!! It SOUNDS like a Ferrari should!!!" Very healthy and gutteral sounding. I'd expect you to get the same reaction on your 348.

That said, without the tip resonators, it's fairly LOUD. Driving through the parking structure at work this morning, I think I set off ALL the car alarms as I passed by. This was just tootling by; not getting on it at all. It was actually pretty funny.

I'll echo what others have said:
    - can't imagine that a Tubi would sound dramatically different
    - the Tubi is a work of art
    - all you really see ARE the tips
    - Stebro is significantly less expensive

    Bottom line: wallet morbidity factor

I have the Stebro on my 88 mondial. I was one of the people whose 2 week lead time turned into 8 weeks. Other than that, I'm happy with the exhaust so far. It was easy to install by myself, taking only 90 minutes from start to finish. The sound is greatly improved over the stock exhaust and I like that the tips look similar to stock. I haven't run it with all 4 tips removed, but took it for a 10 mile trip with 2 removed. Even that was so loud that I couldn't bear it, I can't imagine what it would be like with all 4 out. Also noted that with the 2 tips removed it felt like more HP... although that could have been my imagination or just a result of my central nervous system being assaulted by high decibel levels. I feel satisfied with my decision to go with this exhaust and saved well over $1000 from the cost of a TUBI.

Don't forget if the polished stainless look is what you want, as long as it's stainless you can polish it yourself. It takes a while but, it can be done.

Before you spend all that money, try a pair of Cherry Bomb glass packs with nice chrome tips attached as they exit the rear valance. I heard a Boxer done that way last week and it sounded GREAT! After all, you will lose points in a concours either way, so why spend all that money when for $40 plus the cost of the tips and a little labor at a muffler shop you can have great sound for a fraction of the cost.

I don't want my car to be so loud that it disturbs others, but I would like to improve the sound on my current ride.

After owning a 328 and getting used to the deep rumble, I find my 308 QV sounds pitiful. Can anyone suggest how to get something like a 328 sound out of a 308 QV?

Uh, haven't you been listening? Change your exhaust to a Stebro or Tubi! :)

I have been listening, but haven't noticed anything about whether these pipes are just louder, or produce a throatier sound, which is what I'm looking for. I assume that the 308 engine should be capable of a sound similar to the 328, unless the 328 pipes are unique. I haven't seen much discussion of Ansa, though I understand they are about half the price of a Tubi.

I once heard a 360 with an Ansa and it was LOUD.

Thanks guys for all the responses. My car is the Euro Version so my exhaust does show out the back. If tubi is only 1000 more maybe it's worth while. So this is what I'm getting from the above posts:

    Stebro advantages:

    - Price
    - Sound the same as tubi and can be modified by removing tips.
    - Since I live in Montreal, Ottawa is about a 2hr drive, and I told Stebro I'd drive to the shop to pick up the exhaust. So no shipping cost or wait.

    Tubi Advanyages:

    - Polished
    - Great reputation for quality and performance. ( never heard and bad remarks anywhere about tubi's).

So second question: Is $1500 Can Tax included a good price for a Stebro? And would you know what a tubi would go for? As mentioned on above thread and am fairly new to the Ferrari owner community and I really don't know what is fair price for anything. But as my Ferrari freinds tell me "if you have to ask price, you can't afford it". :)

Since Stebro sells "direct", there is only ONE price, and it is controlled by Stebro...so it is what it is. Tubi's can be purchased in the States for around $1900 and $2000 if one shops around and makes a few phone calls. Prices may be higher in Canada, esp. if you get hit with duties, trying to ship it in from out of the country....

This to me should raise a few "red flags". I certainly would recommend that you not "prepay"; and instead pay upon delivery if you decide to go this route.

I've had a lot of luck with stebro. Even in resolving a couple of issues for fellow f-chatters.

Dan has always responded quickly for me.

I put the stebro on my 72 dino. If you'd like to hear it go here:

IF you have a problem with Stebro, drop me a PM and I'll try to clear it for you.
