    Hello "F"-Chatters,

Can anyone please tell me what shade of black (semi-gloss, gloss, flat-black),
the carbon canister would be for a 79 308GTB? I believe it's the carbon canister, since it's all the way towards the rear of the car, you can see just the top view as one hose connects from the top.

    Thank you very much!

    Chris.

I was able to obtain a new one from the dealer for about $100 Cdn. Its now made out of black plastic that is somewhat glossy.

I never had the original one, so I can't positively say, but from memory of other's cars, it was like a semi-matt black (kind-of like a satin black).

Went to look at mine to see what colour it is and wo-ah, the 'carbon trap B' is not there.
It's obviously not necessary, or is it??

It's the vent line off the fuel tanks, opened by a valve (C) linked to the ignition or seat switch (R), IIRC.

If yours is not there, a review of the vent lines would be wise, IMO. You don't want this line dumping to the ground, or maybe to the proximity of exhaust systems............

The later '78-'79 308 charcoal canister is a little differently shaped than the earlier one shown in Richard's post, but I'd characterize my ex-'78's (which I purchased circa 1989) when new as a "semi-gloss" or maybe "chassis black" (if you're familiar with that Eastwood product), but, of course, it dulls a little with age/heat.

    Chris,

Those camcovers are just the bare cast aluminum material with the usual slight natural oxide film -- the camera flash is making them appear a brighter silver than they really are/were. It's actually a fairly rough sand casting so it reflects more light back to the camera than the earlier die-cast rear camcovers -- probably the only condition where the sand-cast part looks better than the die-cast part ;)
