Hi I have some plans to buy a Ferrari 355... I was and look at one this weekend. A black one. 1995 years model. And it have gone 6900 swedish miles. And the price is about $75000. (565000 swedish krones) I attach some pics... What do you guys think? It is with manual gearbox. I was out and drive it for a couples of days ago and i like it very muth. I found some stone damage in the front spoiler. The was the only damage i found. thats i worried for is the miles. 6900 swedish miles. It's quite muth or what do you think??? One pic of the engine too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
What's the difference between swedish and american miles? Well if the car has been driven (30k or more american miles) and it runs good, I'd get a PPI and look at the history of the car if it is available. Have the belts been changed? If the car has a lot of miles and runs good, it's obviously been taken care of, and has been a reliable car. So a lot of miles can be a good indicator of the cars history. Now if the car has a lot of miles and is ragged out, then I would step away. Get an inspection done on the car, and make sure the belts don't need to be changed. Look also to see if the car has had any valve work.
Some more info about the engeine... For ones years ago. 250 miles ago the mainstrap (Kamrem på svenska) was change, new packboxes, renolvd tops and some more stuff i can't translate into english. I take som information in swedish to if it anyone from sweden here who can help me maybe.
The main strap might be referring to the cam belts. So if they were changed than that's a good thing. Will the owner let you take the car to mechanic to so he can look at it? If not, than I'd walk. That is a beautiful car though. It's seems like a pretty good price too. I think about a year ago it was hard to find a 355 for under 100k.
The car owner of the car is a dealer so they have check the car... but i think it can be a good ide to let another dealer check it to.
let me be your looks expert it may not be red but black is the neaxt best thing. i saw that photo and said to myself beautiful.
I love it in black, definitely my favorite F-car color! The price seems like it is fair here in the U.S. (if all service history is provided & PPI checks out), but I don't know your market prices there.
I would worry about the miles too but for a different reason. 700 miles per year is too low in my opinion. You might have unnecessary problems to fix because of the extremely low mileage. Better to find a car with at least 3K miles per year and a history of regular use. But it is a beautiful car in black!
I agree with 911fan. The mileage is too low and many hide a wole host of problems. Ferrari's need to be driven on a regular basis or all sorts of things start to degrade. Strongly suggest that you have a Pre Purchase Inspection done by a independant Ferrari Specialist. Good luck.
One of my favorite cars, and black on black the best colors or lack of IMO. PPI and then go for it!!! You won't look back.
Because for $15K, he could take care of his 1995 Ferrari's maintenance for the next three years - I think the car looks like it is in superb condition. Engine also seems very clean. Get the PPI done, and enjoy!
But 97 spider by far is a better car as far as the frame, computer and free of problems that the 95 car have.
6900 Swedish Mil (69,000 km) is equivalent to about 40,000 miles. that is a fair amount, especially considering the short summer in Sweden. at least it is not a garage queen. it also looks like this car had a lot of stuff done to it: "nya kamremmar, nya packboxar, nya spännrullar, nyrenoverade toppar, nya kolvringar, nya kamdrivningslager m.m. hösten 2003. Har endast körts ca 250 mil sedan dess. Bilen levereras med nyutförd årsservice och vi har monterat nya sportkatalysatorer på bilen" new cam belts, newly renovated heads, new piston rings, new cam bearings, new seals and new cats, etc. new annual service (don't think they do that here in the U.S.) Potential issues with the 95 (from surfing the forum) 1. Valve guides (nagot med ventilerna, vet inte vad det heter pa svenska) 4. cats (new on this car) I think von Braun does the M-test (motormannen), otherwise I'd recommend getting that. this car does not appear to have a complete service history (says only recent history), this is a potential issue, but may be tempered by the M-test. service is much cheaper in Sweden than here in the U.S., even considering the 35% hit the dollar has taken against the Krona in the past 2.5 years. also appears that it was imported and not originally sold in Sweden. Swedes tend to take care of their cars very well and I'd prefer to have a car that was originally from Sweden. Looks like you just missed a Red Spider with similar miles at von Braun. had a complete rebuild on the engine for maybe another 100,000 kronor. was a 97 too, I think. I'd personally add another 200,000 kronor to get the Titanium 99 they have. Looks nice, but it has an F1 transmission. Lycka till!
Well, apparently my knowledge about Sweden isn't what it ought to be! Can anyone tell me why a Swedish mile is 10 kilometers? And can it really be that Ferraris sold in Sweden have odometers calibrated in Swedish miles? Inquiring minds and all that...
The unit is a "mil" which is 10 kilometers. 16 kilometers is about one U.S. mile. The odometers are calibrates in kilometers and are no different than in other countries that use the metric system, however, since a "mil" is 10 kilometers, you can easily read how many "mils" a car has gone by looking at a kilometer odomoeter.
Thanks! How is the word "mil" pronounced? I hope it's not "mile" -- I'd hate to get directions in Stockholm if that's the case!
