I knew someone was going to say it. I have not driven or been in one but that is the general idea that I have been hearing.

I'm a dealer. Registered with the NYS DMV.

I see no wholesale Gallardos on any of the whole sale auctions or transfer databases at any price. Would love to, though...

Your funny. Quick question for you, why is it that there are so many Gallardo's available? Why is it that they can be had new significantly under MSRP? Hum... Could I be right?

No, no, no. I said that they were not at any of the WHOLESALE points. They are lots of them available at retail Tons online and some in print pubs. For example:

I see two Gallardos in Auto Week, not counting dealer ads. This is a somewhat-good gauge of what's going on in the market place:

    - '04, 200 mi, $168,900 "19k under MSRP" - (which means dealer profit is $1,000, not $20,000)

    - '04, 1,900 mi, $162,000 (MSRP Unknown)

This tells me a few things:

    - If there were more ads, there'd be more supply (Like the 8 360 ads in the book this week)

    - If the prices were higher, there'd be more demand (like the at MSRP prices for the 3 '04 360s being offered)

What I am saying is that none of the Gallardos are making it to the wholesale channels, which means that there is still demand enough in the market place for dealers to make some $$. The Gallardo has a HUGE dealer markup and what we're seeing is the car being sold at a REASONABLE dealer mark-up. I check the wholesale channels frequently. Like I said, if I can find a wholesale bargain (like I did with Fishbulb) I'd jump on it immediately.

I asked the sales manager at a dealer I know well to enquire about pre-owned Gallardos at several dealers in NJ asking about wholesale prices on Gallardos for interested customers outside of their regions. Results: No cars being available for less than $158,000 for manual, $168 for e-gear.

Only 3 '01 Modenas were sold at Manheim in PA this year. It's difficult to say from that low volume (which is why it took 1,000,000 years for pchop to get his insurance settled on his 355 incident) what the real value of the car is at wholesale prices, but if I were making an offer to a broker on locating a car, I'd go with:

    - 01, 6 Speed, 15k service done: $120 to $130

    - 01, F1, 15k service done: $125 to $135

Shields, challenge grill, daytona/sport seats, xenons, etc. are not tracked at the wholesale level which makes buying cars wholesale for enthusiasts difficult, so if it were exceptionally clean, were well optioned and it fell within that range, I'd fell it was an excellent deal and well below what you see on asks.

Again, going back to Auto Week as a reference, I see the following:

    - No '01s for sale

    - '99, 6-Speed, 5,000 miles, $124k

    - '02, 6-Speed, 5,000 miles, $145k

    - Misc '03s, around $165k

Oh, and given that there are only 3 cars in the Northeast to make it to the wholesale market for the year, don't be surprised if you can't buy at a "wholesale" price.

    Nope, it's not a science.
