F355 Speaker sizes

Just measured the OEM door speakers out of my 1998 355 Berlinetta

6.5" wide
2.125 deep - measured from mounting face to rear of magnet

 

I just replaced the whole stereo system in my '99 355 with Infiity seperates (seperate tweeter and mid) and the door speaker is 6 1/2".

 

Can anyone offer any help in taking the door panels off to replace the speakers in the doors?

Ive done it, it really isnt difficult to do, surprisingly.

It was 6 months ago, but i think it goes something like this:

you need to take off the doorhandle. i think it is a couple screws on the bottom of the handle. then it slides off, and then the lever piece also slides off.

There are also a number of screws along the bottom of the door panel and a few up the side.

I remember you have to screw off the door lock pin.

Not sure if you have to remove the inside mirror cover from above the door panel....

The door will tilt out from the top and lift up to remove.

Ive probably missed a bunch of the instructions, but rest assured it is intuitive, and i dont think there is a lot of potential to break anything

Looking at upgrading my system also. I already have a head unit picked out--any suggestions on speakers?? Would like maybe one 8" sub or some kind of mid woofer also..

 

What kind of sound are you looking for? I dont really think you need clarity as we have the same car and the engine alone cancels out so soft tranquil drives by the lake. lol I did my research and I am going with the Rockford Fosgates T162S

Have a look at my install on this thread. Sounds great and reasonably stealthy. What Ipod deck are you going with? Alpine do a full speed deck that rocks.

The Speakers I put in were Sony XSHF167 16cm Component Speakers. Normally they make crap speakers but these are very good and they fit.

 

I have an Ipod 60gig video. Right now just looking for speakers. I have already decided on the Alpine flip out 7" screen with the Blackbird for Nav. Just need to find some great sounding speakers. Maybe a way to hide a 8" sub somewhere.
