I know some of you have been following my 308 AC conversion thread. I cut the old hoses and installed new fittings/charge ports on the low pressure line last night. Bit of twisting and pushing but I got the fitting on and clamped down.

I tried to do the HP line also and I just could not get that fitting to go into the hose. It would start fine, I'd get it pushed in abou 1/2" or so and could not get it to budge after that. Twisting, turning, pushing, the thing would just not move. The fitting needs to seat into the hose about 1-1/4" or so.

I talked with Steve this morning at Carr Auto and he said it may be that the line is just old and hard and I will not be able to get the fitting on. He asked how hard it was to replace that hose? It looked like it would be pretty tough to replace that hose and I imagine it is.

Would I maybe be able to make the new hose, tie it to the old one and pull them through the chassis, or are they secured in the chasis? There is insulation around the hoses I see at the engine side, but did not see to much at the front. Does the insulation cover the hose all the way thru the chassis?

If anyone has done this I'd appreciate some pointers on replacing that hose.

I'm going to try and get the fitting on again tonight and hopefully avoid this.

woohoo--you are in fro a bear of a job

when you install the new fittings you will likely end up with an expensive hose that is too short anyway and buying new hose aint cheep.

BUT--I happen to have a bunch of it I can sell--I bought 40 foot rolls of both sizes so I could "mock-up" my hoses here at home.

    1) remove right gas tank and front right wheel well to expose hose

    2) remove both hoses bot before pulling them out---tape (2) small 1/16" type strings (strong ones) so they will pull thru the tube.

    3) after making your new hoses--oil the outsides good and feed them individually into hole at the back of car --note--it you bend the little gas tank pad thingy up and out of the way you can see a lot better.

    4) take other end of string tied to hose at front of car--wrap it around your brake rotor and bring it back to rear of car--this way you can push-guide-pull at same time.

after a lot of swearing and bleeding from the knuckles you will get it done

PS---!!!!!!!--be sure to get the orientation correct on the fittings--these hoses are NOT twistable---suggest you install front side of system first--leave off rear fittings--pull hoses thru--- set hoses and fittings just where you want them---pull hoses back out--attach fittings--reinstall finished products....

Well that's what I was afraid of.

I'd guess I'd better find a way to get that fitting on.

I've got a crimping tool to attach the fittings after it's all in. What if I just buy some extra length of hose, tape it to the existing hose (end to end with duct tape - may or may not hold - attach string as back up) and use the existing hose to pull through the new hose, attache my fittings once it's all in?

Sounds like a 2-man job but my neighbor would help me, or I can call you when you're here this week to "coach" ;)
