Thanks John ... but making plenty at the moment , and have a family. House comes first (very soon) and then garage D ... that will cost a bit ) and then my Alfa Romeo will have to pretty damn close to completion before I even think of another car. To be honest I'm not sure if I really want to own a Ferrari road car ... in the past when I wanted to go fast I went racing, but times are a changing Regarding importing a car to Australia ... yep just been through that hoop with my Alfa Romeo (from NZ). It is another Australian joke where Unions are in too much control ... yet again. Most of my work on that car recently has been repairing the damaged caused by unloading the can. I doubt whether I'll ever import again ... Pete
[ I have heard, but haven't been game to try it, that if you pull the car to pieces and ship home in separate containers you can miss out on the import duty. Mate, Customs caught on to that back in the early 80's when Bob Jane was doing it with Aston Martin Lagonda's and Mercedes 500's. He got in some strife over it as I recall. I think they catch you when it comes time for registration and their clever little computers do some data matching. Not worth the trouble.
would you believe it, the car i was in the process of buying, 1986 328 GTS, was in the front of the show room that particular night and suffered some paint damage from flying glass. lance dixon are authorised repairers for ferrari, maserati, bentley and similar so the car was virtually repainted, rosso corsa, and the finish is brilliant. ok so delivery was delayed about two weeks but! got to win one every so often.
Tony, Dixons had 2 for sale, does this mean there is only one now ? What made you pick yours over the other ?
yes believe one left. reasons for this one; red with black leather, the other one red with tan i believe the one i choose is slightly more "original" which having said that, is hard to understand because the other one was also immaculate. mine was about $10K lower in price but not really a consideration. mine has 45000 kms the other about 35000. in the end i just liked one in preference to the other but both were/are fabulous cars. i almost made a serious mistake in that i had also test diven the mb clk 430 cabriolet and the jaguar xk8 convertible but came back to sanity just in time. take care all the best tony
not according to their web site which is worth visiting. plenty of information and various photos of the cars for sale with pricing. www.lancedixon.com.au not all cars at lance dixon are on their web site. for instance there is a very interesting 12 cylinder ferrari with carburettors, would i have counted 12 of them have fun tony
I checked the website and saw the 348tb had been withdrawn. I meant has anybody visited the Lance Dixon showroom @ Richmond and noticed it gone. I'm in NSW.
checked with lance dixon and the 438 gtb has been sold, is currently in the workshop for predelivery. they say they get one in each month or so. the other car i was talking about is as follows; 1974 365 BB boxer, flat 12 cylinder with 6 carburettors and double down draft each carbi. quite a car. tony
No you should have counted 4 triple choke carburettors (I believe) ... which means that effectively there are 12 individual carbs, just cast and manufactured in groups of 3. Thus has this car been converted to carbs?, refering to your comment that it had 6 twin choke carbs. I'm pretty sure that original carb'ed BB had triple choke carbs, NOT twin choke. Pete
and all this time i thought the 365bb had 6 doubles and the 512bb had 4 triples! i'm sure someone will set us straight soon
Now that is interesting. I thought that all 512bb's were fuel injected (?) What do I know? ... I've never seen a BB with twin choke carb's though. Pete
The injected cars were 512BBi and were made from 1982 or 1983 i think. like the 308GTSi was, apparently, down on power compared to the previous model. Testarossa and 328 got it back, though (and more)
Yes you are right :insert my stupid face icon: ... have a look at this thread: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=134419376&postcount=9 As far as that thread was concerned there were no change to carb's between the 365BB and 512BB. Pete
365 carbs are very similar to 512, but different in many respects. 365 clutch is cable operated single plate. VERY heavy and wears out VERY quickly. 512 clutch is twin plate hydraulic. BBi's have same clutch as 512Carb, but much less throttle response....
Tony - Do you mean 348tb in lieu of 438gtb? I'm confused. Has Lance Dixon sold the 348tb recently advertised on his website?
sorry it is me who is getting both confused and dyslexic. i meant the 348tb and i have just found out that the "g" was dropped. yes sold. back to that other ferrari; lance dixon definitely confirm 1974 4.4 litre flat 12 with six carburettors and double down draft. all the best tony
Then either they have no idea what a carburettor is (quite possible for a main dealer), or they have a "Bitsa". Ferrari never made any flat 12 with 6 carburettors. It will have 4 triple down draughts if it's a proper 365BB.
And here is a picture as confirmation: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=134476989&postcount=24 Pete
