    I get bogus E-mails like that almost every day.

    I also get frequent emails offering to pay a greater amount , by cashier's check, than the asking price for a particular car that I'm selling. I'm told that when the check clears, to forwrd the title. The check is a great forgery, drawn on an actual, or recently closed, account.

    I just got this one.... closed the mortgage 6 months ago; guess I should have told the bank!!

    I got a very similar message yesterday, allegedly from CitiBank.

    I do not have, and never have had, any account with Citi in my life.

    A local woman here in Bouder just got taken in a little bit more creative way. She received a response to an ad for a house for rent. She was sent a cashiers check ,from England I believe,for two months rent plus deposit. She had her banker look at the check before she deposited it, he said it looked "fine".

    Well guess what happens next. The new tenant calls and says "My father is desperately ill and i must return to Nigeria to be with him. Of course now I can't move to the USA. Please be so kind as to wire the money back to me in Nigeria to pay for his operation,etc., etc."

    She sent the money, the check she had deposited was then returned as no good, the local bank, of course, now wants the money for the wire reimbursed as her account is short.

    I can't believe anyone would wire money to Nigeria anymore.
