I used to have a neighbor dog come over and piss on the polished aluminum rims I had. Made a real mess of them.

I constructed 4 square wood frames with wire mesh mounted on insulators covering one side of each. I placed one over each wheel and hooked a solid state electric fence controller (50,000 volts at .005 amps) in parallel to the frames. I thought I had it licked but the failure was in the 'pulse' operation of the fence controller failing to connect with the 'pulse' operation of the dog.

Out of shear desparation I hooked everything directly to the house current (110 volts at 20 amps). The next morning I noticed just the smallest of drops on the left front wheel of the car. I walked around the car and didn't find any dogs laying around so I looked across the street to verify his location. He was up and about no worse for wear. No problems after that.

So goes the old saying, "It's not the voltage that kills 'ya, it's the amperage."

PS. Just a reassurance for those concerned. I live in the nether regions of my county (the sticks). No children were risked or harmed during the behavior modification of the neighbor's dog.
Any adults stupid enough to walk into my property after dark does so at their own risk, especially when nosing around my vehicles..

PSS. Hook an automotive coil to a conductive mat and lay it on the hood of your car. Might fix the cat problem.

 

Bummer on the scratches...it is unfortunate, and I hope they can be cleaned up with some polish.

Fortunately my cats are well trained on staying away from cars; in, under and on...and cats can be useful "mousers":

I have cats sleeping on top of my 512TR every night....needless to say, the roof got a few scratches... I have not bought car cover and with such high humidity in the air like this (Thailand), I don't dare using the cover (I park in a garage anyway).

It's strange, they choose to stay on top of the 512TR only, and never get onto the Skyline, the G, and any other cars in the garage...must have good taste in motor cars, these cats.

Well, I can buff it off later...I am a cat-lover.

 

My sister is begging my mum and dad for a cat. I like the family furniture the way it is thank you....

A good cover will breathe in humid climates. Protection for the paint plus nice place for the cats to sleep.

 

Spasso, yes I know. I just have not found a good on in Thailand. I guess I will have to import one...ha ha.

 

Since we are on the cat topic, I like cats, but when I am in a house with a cat, the alergies kick in to them big time and my eyes water up and just about shut down! How would I get around this if I were to own a cat?

ps: The cat carrier is a riot!

 

Not so many Cats around here lately can"t really figure out why but the local Chinese restuarant has a brand new Menu!!!

 

You have a Ferrari, I'd give anything for one and there is no way I could even come close to affording one. I have a poor man's Ferrari.....an Alfa Romeo 164S.

 

And I have came out to my alfa to see paw prints all over my window and car.....made it look cute and cuddely and made me look quite homosexual.

I had the same problem when I met my soon to be wife. She had a cat and I had allergies.

The vet said that there were shots available to cure the allergies and I said "Oh, you can give the cat shots?"

"uh, no - the shots aren't for the cat..."

"Oh...right"

As it turned out, though, my allergies just sort of went away after spending time with the little bucket of fuzz.

 

Love that cat carrier, need to get one for my mother-in-laws cat, it's either that or road kill.

 

i had allergies with cats too, the same thing happened, my eyes watered and itched and almost shut and i sneezed a lot.......i got used to my cat too and it just went away and now all cats dont really bother me.

 

Buy Claritin (or the generic equivalent), it is readily available "over the counter", with no prescription required. I think with continued exposure, it is possible that you will eventually build a resistance to the cat. In the meantime take a Claritin. Just one a day, they last for 24 hours.

Or get one of them "hairless" cats...

 

Maybe Ferrari could license some of this technology from Ford ?

I am running an cat spay and neuter operation her ein Miami Beach and am highly allergical myself. Had cats all my life and never had a problem till I was living with 3 on close quarters. All of a sudden had an allergic reaction. Almost died that night. Tried accupuncture, did not work. This was pre-pills.
Then stopped having cats for 8 years and in 2000 we had this cute cat that was found and they brought it to me. A Hemmingway. We nursed him and he became the new boss around the house.
Funny how they do not stay with the owner but with their environment. When we moved in 2002 we picked him up and brought him 10 blocks further from the old house and after a few months he said: screw that, screw you I am ooutta here! and since then he lives back at the old house.
In the meantime we have two others that were rescued.

As for my allergies, they come on certain cats but my own I have no acute outbreaks. I think you have to keep things in control and you get used to them, just not too many. I still get reactions when I am at the vet for a half hour helping him during the operations.

 

We are on cats #6 and 7, as 2 died from old age (18 and 16), one from a tumor at 8, and two recently from feline lukemia at 8 and 10 months old..

The two new ones, Keiko (chocolate point Siamese) and Topo grigio (VERY dark grey with siamese featues) couldn't be more different, even though they are brothers (about 6 months old...we just adopted them 2 weeks ago)

Keiko is shy and hides under the bed...Topo is an affection whore.

I have SEVERE asthma for 50+ years, but the cats don't bother me much..(I was always a dog person until I got married for the second time, about 6 years ago) I got married the first time at 21, and it lasted all of 2 years...but many of you know that kind of story....

On the subject of cats, I have asthma, and some cats bother me, others don't. We had one for a while, and he didn't bother me too much, but the roomate who's cat it was didn't care for him, so he got sent to a home where he would be cared for properly. On the subject of Fridays, I used to frequent Fridays, and always ordered the same thing, JD ribs and a salad, now they have changed their whole menu and it sucks!! Their ribs came with onion rings, which were killer, now Fridays doesn't serve onion rings at all!! I have written them two letters and two emails, and haven't even gotten a generic response. I think my days of going to Fridays are over unless they make their food good again, and start caring about their customers. Just needed to vent that cause it has been bothering me since I went on Friday!!

Note; both the cat and the Ferrari aren't mine, but I know them both very well and they both can be seen in my garage from time to time...



However, that's some bad news Dave, hopefully you'll get rid of those scratches on your lovely car soon...
