I'm looking to buy a new shotgun to do 95% skeet shooting with, 5% bird squirrel, yadda. I want a Benelli Nova pump, but I'm undecided on whither to go 12 ga. or 20. I have short arms and the 20 ga youth stock fits my PERFECT, but all my shooting friends are saying 20 ga. are for girls get a 12ga. What you your thoughts. ? Any benelli owners here ?? Are you kidding? The real hot shots love the smaller guns and poo-poo the 12 ga guns as too easy to hit with.
Tough call, while the 20 GA. probably makes more sense, you really would be able to use it a lot more for other stuff you might move into if you get the 12. I would go with the 12 also bc IME, ammo is just a lot easier to find when your looking for something different or special, 20 GA is ok, when I borrowed a 16 GA it was a NIGHTMARE trying to find anything. same with 28 GA.

John, The Youth Gun Stock would be the same on the 12 or 20 gauge. Unless you're Hunting Water Fowl, there is no need to go 12 gauge. However, I do have a 12 Gauge Benelli SBE II C, that I use for everything. What I will get soon is a 26 inch Barrel (vs 30), for Quail, Chukar, & Trap. Whichever way you go, if you plan on Shooting a lot, you might consider investing in a Reloader. Much cheaper than Factory Loads, and you can customize to your own Loads, thus, no ammo availability concerns. Chuck
If the 20 fits you so well get it. IMO though I'd much rather have teh 12 gauge. Also good choice of weapon. I love Benellis but there just so damn expensive.
thats the probablem, the short stock is only avail on the 20 ga. How about the Walmart Beretta 390 12 ga.? anyone ever shot one ?
I'd go with the 12g. As some have already pointed out, it is more versatile and the ammo is easier to get and has more variety. As for the hard-core clay shooters saying go with the 20g, that's great if that is all you want to do. You said that some hunting might be in order. The extra coverage of the 12g will mean more squirrels in the pot for you!
LOL! That reminds of my one friend who went hunting with a .50 cal. He saw a dear through the site, but could not otherwise. So he shot it, and it looked like a hit, but damn that deer just stood there. Perplexed he made his way over there. After a long time he finally got there to see that yes he had indeed hit the deer (which had fallen over by this time). He could see where he hit it, as a large triangle of blood came outward from the exist site on the other side. It was a hell of a mess...
