Even if I could get a shot this year, I will pass, as I have done for the past five years (Which I have yet to get the flu in that time period). I look forward to get a good flu! Call me nuts, but here are the benny's:

    1) I will have a great excuse not to go to work for about a week.
    2) Since I won't eat much, I'll drop about 10-15 pounds.
    3) I get to lay on the couch and catch up on Netflix and old episodes
    of M*A*S*H
    4) Melodie makes her awesome chicken soup and waits on me hand and foot!
    5) I can get on the phone and catch up with friends I need to call.
    6) I will have time to complete my Christmas cards
    7) I can go 2-3 days without shaving
    8) I can spend more time on FChat!

Oh ya, bring that flu on baby

All worthy reasons, no doubt. :D

But do keep in mind that if you do get the flu (influenza) it's going to be a lot worse symptomatically than you're fantasising about. Fever, headaches, muscle aches, bone aches, poor appetite, drowsiness, disorientation, maybe vomiting, the works !

If you're thinking of the common cold, hey, that's nothing, maybe just a stuffy or running nose, loss of taste and smell and some sneezing . If it was just a common cold, yeah, you could watch TV, slurp chicken soup and have a lazy jolly time at home. But a flu will make you miserable. Plus even healthy people occasionally get complications like pneumonia from the flu.

Be careful what you wish for. ;)

Flu shots are just mind control drugs, you know that right?
Why do you think all the 'healthy' people who got their shots in are out christmas shopping?

Hundreds of people die each year from flu. Better make sure you don't become a statistic :)

I've never had a flu shot, and I haven't had the flu since I was in grade school. There. I've now officially jinxed myself.

Thats because the flu goes in about 20 year cycles and if you never get the shot, you will be immune to most strains after 20-30 years.

It will be easier for them, rather than catching it from someone else.

I'm afraid that isn't possible. Flu "shots" are made of inactivated (killed) virus particles. You cannot get an infection from the shot (although you can "feel sick" due to your body's immune responses to the shot).

There is a new live, attenuated (meaning weakened) version of the vaccine called FluMist that is administered via the nose (not as a shot). It isn't in widespread use yet. There IS a theoretical risk of getting infected with the vaccine strain from this formulation, which is why it is not recommended for use in people with very poor immunity (like HIV infected individuals).

Another factor not mentioned--the flu kicks your immune system's behind, which results in decreased resistance to other infections during the course of the winter. The flu (which is not a picnic, as accurately described above) will seem not so bad after your fourth or fifth cold in a couple of months (this obviously doesn't happen to everyone, but it is common enough). Also, realize that while many people get sick during the winter and say they have "the flu" in most cases they have one of the umpteen variations of the common cold. BIG difference.

I half expected to see Tony Blair overruling the stop on the flu shot shipments ...

... resulting in the headline: ...

    "Britannia waives the rules!"
