I was about to say the same thing. Great writeup, I cant imagine how scary this car must feel once you dip into the throttle.
hey Tfrancis you haven't told us what it's like drivin git in a every day traffic situation? did everyone in the street notice you? what was other drvers reaction to that very low wide car? I hope you post pics but Different ones... pics taken at shows over the grass and next to other 200 Ferraris have become boring by now. if you have pics of Enzo on the street, would be more enjoyable
Earlier this summer I was standing behind this car when Ron hit the throttle and it's much louder outside. Of course, I was right behind the exhaust. Inside the car it's a muffled growl which is good. You can still talk to someone and not loose your hearing. Wade would be able to add better details about driving behind the car. He initial followed me over to the event. Tom
Correct NNO. The car lowers on its own!! My guess is that the airfoil (wing) on the front nose senses a certain amount of down pressure and knows to lower itself. It usually happens around 15-20 mph. You don't want to stomp on the accelerator until you've got it lowered. It's also my understanding that you have to be at a stop to raise the car. Tom
Tom, cool stuff, i didn't know that... The owners manual says the car needs to be moving at a rate under 18mph in order to operate the lift mechanism; that gives me the impression that you can use it while the car is in motion; it would be a real pain in the ass to come to a complete stop before speed bumps - especially if people are behind you... Apparently, the car shifts quickest when the gas pedal is fully depressed and rpms are around 5,500 - i don't suppose you had a chance to verify that...?!?
I'd be interested in also knowing how where peoples' reaction to the car? Plus you must be really good friends with Ron, for him to trust you to drive his ($1.2 M) car while he's not around.
Tom, it's very rare I get smiles that big, but you managed it. Talk about a great experience! Ah man, tell Ron he's definitely one of the coolest guys on earth and next time you should bring a camcorder .
Well in the morning when I drove it over was probably the most traffic around. I wasn't really paying as much attention to the people as the other cars around. When I pulled up to a stop light is when I noticed the most looks. Ohhh yeah...I saw some kids jumping up and down and pointing inside an SUV I passed. In the afternoon I passed one porsche going the opposite direction as I left the parking lot. It was a 4 seater with 2 kids in the back. The porsche came to a complete stop and everyone's eyes popped out of their heads. I then passed another porsche that Wade mentioned earlier. The guy did a double take that almost spinned his head off. I can't promise any action photos but maybe Ron will let me take some of him that I can post. I'll see what I can do. Tom
One other story I forgot to mention.... I would start the car during the day from time to time just so people could hear the engine. The first time I did it a guy with his two dogs (Labs) was standing behind car. When I hit the accelarator one of the dogs leap right out of his collar. I laughed but felt sorry for the dog.
there's one dog that gonna hate Ferraris for the rest of his life! LOL! Great story! So sad it happens to so few...... maybe one of these days, I guess!
