    Dear all
    Please give me an advice.
My 80' 308GTSi have some trouble with tach.
When the engine idle, tach shows about 800/rpm.
It shows till around 1200/rpm but over this rev, it goes down to start position and when rev comes down to below 1200/rpm, it starts moving again.
Because of this, I think the wiring from pickup(CDI?) to tach is connected.
Does anybody have same situation or have any idea about this case?
    Please give me help
    Thank you very much

    Sarukichi-sama,
It is very possible there is a problem with the tach itself. They are known to fail often in the 3.2 liter series (328/3.2 Mondial). Not a common problem in the 308, but is easy enough to remove and have checked by a instrument shop.

Please check the archives for full instructions on removal of the tach. Try a search of "tach removal" or "speedometer removal", or "bulb upgrade" for instructions.

    Regards,
    Dave

    Thank you for your advice.
    You surely know japanese!!
But sama is too much to me. san is enough. Sama is too polite to who like me.

For my tach, I will take out and will bring to shop. Let's see and if it works, that will be great.

My car 80' 308GTSi which I had a month ago, has not original CDI.
It has CDI made by ULTRA(Nagai denshi) which is from Japan.
So I was wondering if this replacement cause the trouble.
But still the tach works till 1200/rpm, so the wiring might be fine.
I will check and will post again.
Again, thank you for your advice!!!

Ah, very possible that this is your problem! Non-original ignitions like your CDI must be carefully matched to properly operate the tach. You might consult with the manufacturer for assistance. Can you contact the previous owner to verify that the tach operated properly after installation of the CDI? If not, then there may be some sort of modification needed to the "tach signal" been sent to your tach. Or you may need to go back to the original ignition type, for the tach to properly operate.
