Hi there, I am after an 'evaluation copy' (..err cough ! ) of the 348 WSM on CD... trouble is I over here in the UK..and most of you guys are in the US. Is anyone feeling particularly nice and friendly and would be willing to send me a copy to the UK?! Alternatively anyone in the UK who could do me the favour? cheers, Matt.
I've seen them on ebay for around 55 GBP... but there are people on the forum with copies. There was a thread a while back about the spare parts catalogue and the WSM... They were being emailed about but the problem is while the SPC is only 12/13 Mb or something, the WSM is over 100Mb and I don't have broadband or anywhere capable of receiving that size of file. I mananged to get a copy of the spare parts catalogue from a guy over here in the UK. cheers, Matt.
I just won full suite of 3 (owners; workshop; parts) today on E bay for 30 bucks, so the actual CD not too pricey, costing more to get it sent to UK (the guy is quoting $47 for uninsured shipping!) Once I have it I will be happy to send some copies out to other FChatters for just the cost of postage. I think for models as old as the 348 now the factory should start making these manuals freely downloadable, or at least the freekin parts catalogue so you can work out exactly what to order, it would put a stop to all the E-Bay CD trafficking
dapper, Excellent - good going... if you could burn me a copy I can send you the postage and a blank in return or something. This would be great. Let me know (via PM) when you have it and we can exchange addresses. cheers, Matt. p.s $47???? holy smoke!
I would love a copy of the WSM on CD, and happy to pay for a CD and postage. I could also host this on a server in London for FTP download - it is around 267Mb as far as I know so you might all need a fast connection to download it (I am on a 34Mb connection so 'my end' will be quite quick) Simon
Im not speaking from personal exp., but the seller that dapper won this from does not have a good rep here on F-Chat. Just do a search on likeyoudontknow .I think maybe this helps explain the high shipping cost. May want to watch yourself on this one dapper.
Oh god, that guy is a menace. Be careful dapper. If you do get it I'll throw ya a 20 spot to get a copy. Would rather give you the money then that clown.
Have to say, I'm still in a bit of a quandry as to what to do with this one. Won the deal at 30 bucks, then even with 47 bucks over that for shipping isn't at all bad for all 3 manuals....if the guy is genuine! His E bay rep isn't too bad, only a couple of bad comments (and I am well aware how easy it can be to get one bad comment against you for no fault of your own on E bay), others all delighted. For 77 bucks I have to say it still seems worth the gamble. I dont have a high speed line so download from a.n.other is not an option. Given a choice I'd actually prefer paying many many more bucks to have an original hard copy 348TS WSM, but that will have to be a wish for the future when one comes up for sale or I stumble across one....for now I have an engine to get out for its 4th cambelt (rediculously on a genuine ex-stored 4K mile car!) so no time to waste.
Dapper, With all the offer of $ coming your way for copies.... you'll probably turn a profit! I'll probably download from the site if you get a copy to Simon in London, but I'll still throw some $ your way no worries. cheers, Matt H
I also have the 348 WSM. 267 MB. Saw the request for the 348 SPC in the other thread. I am going to send it at the weekend if I find some time.
Matt, I'm afraid I'm bowing out of the deal, I've had enough PM's to be fairly confident that the E-Bay seller plays games with whats sent versus whats described. Having already been done once when buying a supposed 'full' workshop manual on CD for my MV Agusta bike, only to find it was just the engine section (not inclusive of chassis), a free download I already had, I am loathe to get caught again. I'll have to wait for a hard copy repro or more local trusted CD source. Looks like the engine out job will have to be done blind, with a little help from you guys along the way I suspect!
Dapper, No worries - its understandable - nothing worse than getting ripped off by some ebay conman. Sounds like AR may be able to help us out so all is not lost... If he can send it over to Simon, who can host it... we can download it.. problem solved Regarding the engine out job - would you consider getting a specialist to do this? If so I can recommend Zest Engineering. Its in Aldershot, Hampshire - bit of a distance from you I know. The guy that runs it (mike) is an engineer first and formost and so if something is broken they will aim to fix first rather than just replace - if that is a safe/sound option. He started off Zest to help fund the ferrari racing he's involved with. His hourly rate is good and it might be worth a phone call to get a quote. Always nice to do as much on your own car as possible though cheers, MH
