which would you buy right now, the 512m or the 512tr....there is probably a 40k price difference btw the two....the m is limited edition and may have collector value and its price has held steady....the tr prices have dropped slightly but not dramatically,,, is there a noticable performance difference? i personally like the looks of the 512tr better but the m does perform better and may be a better investment in the long run...opinions?

The 512tr is sort of like a middle child to me, I would either go with the Testarossa or the 512M.

I would have to go M. It's strange, some people really dislike the wheels. I can't get enough of them!!!

    M M M

    Without a doubt.

512 TR for me. I'm sure this will upset a lot of people, but the M has to be the most awkward, inelegant redesign in history.

Agreed. I'll take the performance upgrades-- but it seems they tried too hard to modernize a classic '80s design. 512tr!

    I'm with Bill and Kenny..........

They tried too hard from a design standpoint; however they could of gone a bit further with the modest performance upgrade.

    give me the 512 TR.........

    Why a Testarossa over a 512 TR????

    Exceptional car no matter what.

I'm not a big fan of the M design mods either, the wheels are too busy, the rear taillights look stuck on The the 512TR has a much nicer looking front bumber

I would go with the TR, versus the 512TR or M. You are getting, basically, the same car, at a LOT less cost.........I feel the costs of the 512TR and M, are over inflated, and will only come down.

As far as performance, who has ever stated that the performance of the TR is not enough? I have never read that!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to love the M, but now I think the tail lights look out of place, the headlights are ugly and the front end is too "oh, look at me, I am a reincarnated TR and I want to be a 355" looking. Other than that I love it.

I agree 100% Henry. When I slam the pedal down and listen to that sweet sound from the flat 12 w/ Tubi & test pipes (thanks again for those Henry!), I can't imagine why you'd need any more performance. I already have a hard enough time avoiding speeding tickets!!

I agree.......don't like at all the the rear taillights that look stuck on, the wheels that look too "busy", front bumper that has too many detailing like the "busy" cluster lights and vents.

One things for sure there's not much difference in performance between the two.

Wish that I still had mine.

    Werid...

I LOVE the rear tail light design.

The wheels are my FAVORITE wheels on any Ferrari.

Only part I am undecided on is the headlights. I like it...

...that said, the "Lung design" is much much smoother IMO then the 512TR.

For collectibility and (minimizing) investment (loss), the M has it. If it were me, and it ain't, I'd get the M and a set of TR wheels. Keep the originals of course....

I've recently done big jobs on all 3.

The Trossa is nice but the interior is just abysmal quality, the brakes are woeful when pushed even slightly hard and the slightly sensitive and finicky to set up K/E-Jetronic soaks up hours of tuning time so no thanks... 16" wheels aren't much cop either, and as for the metrics!! RRGGHHH

The TR is perfect in every way....

But there's something about an M that makes the hair on your neck stand up....so it's M for me, despite the weird wheels......

Why not go for one of the nicest Ferrari's ever buildt, the 512TR! That car still has the classic lines of the testarossa, just a little bit more beautiful.....if possible:)

Definatly the TR. I don´t care how much faster a M is. I just can´t get over it´s appalling looks. A nice example of how a superb design can be ruined with ugly details.

    I couldn't agree more.

Ok, the M is a better car in terms of performance--but I owuld argue "not by much."

But if appearance is a consideration, and it is to me, than the 512TR prevails. The F512M is the most atrociously awkward looking thing on wheels. The basic shell of the Testarossa is 80s. The fixed lights on an angular 80s exotic car just don't look right. Neither does the rounded front bumper look right on an otherwise angular car. They tried to put 90s curves on an 80s car with straight edges. I saw an M yesterday in person at Ferrari LI and I tell you, the front end is horrible. If I bought one and had the money, I'd re-do the whole front end to bring it to 512TR specs.

Let's start debating about performance, however.

I've heard people say that the M is "light years" ahead of the 512TR in terms of performance. I haven't read any literature that supports this. '94 TRs had ABS, so ABS aside, what makes the M so great besides some 15 extra horsepower?

    512TR all the way!!!

The M look doesn't appeal to me one iota. Funny enough, a friend of mine wants to get his hands on an old Testarossa and convert it to the M look.
