I think most people are able to figure out that their reputations are on the line, here. I try (well, I do try ;) ) to keep my tech support to smart a** wisecrack ratio at a reasonable level.

I don't think we're ever going to see friendly P&R discussions, unless each faction gets their own forum, where they can agree with each other. Adult content warnings are de-rigeur for such discussions, or any debate where emotional content runs as high. After all, you can't take your local politician down to the drag strip to "settle it once and for all". (Unless your politician is ... (no - I need to keep the s.a.wisecrack ratio down). :D )

Hey Rob... Is there something you can do to clean up FerrariAds.com?

Gees...take a look at parts section and you will see "promot your business" "learn home typing" along with PCars & Lambo dealers looking for free advertising.

Annoying when people abuse the system...

    Not a complaint...just a comment...
    :)

I try to clean it up once a month and it has been awhile now. We might be able to get a mod for just the classifieds. Charging $5-10 an ad would clean it up, but not sure what users think. That would be another good subscriber benefit... free posting of so many classified ads, $5-10 for everyone else.

    BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the rules never apply to the far left, do they?

    What a silly idea.

Here is a suggestion: look at Art's behavior as the sole reason he is taken to task, and owned, with alarming regularity here. Or, retain a tinfoil hat & see it all as some sort of vast right wing conspiracy of folks "having it out for him".

    Too danged funny...

Creative, intelligent and humorous insults, putdowns or whatever you want to call them should not be an issue though.......having said that, deliberate racial or profane remarks......well that's another story.

Hell.....if I can't roast a left winger with wit....what's the point of having the PR forum.

I think a clearer definition of "commercial purposes" might be needed.

If a member lists his car on Ebay, then posts a link to the auction?

If a member produces an aftermarket part(carbon fiber trim)?

If a member produces a part that is no longer available (Unobtanium)?

    What about group buys?

If you're making a profit off a post, then you need to be a sponsor or you need to stick it in FerrariAds.com. To allow anything else, essentially opens the door wide open.

Coordinating a group buy would not be an issue... since most group buys don't involve the organizer making money... just saving money like the others who join the buy. Now if Ferrari starts doing the tupperware party thing... giving the host a free Ferrari if their friends come buy Ferraris... then that wouldn't be allowed. ;)

If somebody asks for unobtanium, then it would be okay to respond with "That is available at xxx.com." But don't take it as an opportunity to make a blatant sales pitch for your business.

What this user thinks is that we should make FerrariAds.com a dynamic forum, just like one of the many others we have, in order to allow:

    - Sellers to post multiple pictures
    - Have the group collectively benefit from potential buyer questions, and the corresponding seller responses
    - Make oversight and moderation easier (for example, mis-use could be flagged for the community to take note of)

I've seen this work to great success at other automotive forums. I've beaten this drum before with Rob, only to be told it will come down the road given the current priority list of projects. I'm willing to wait, but hope we can get this "user tested" sooner rather than later, so the FerrariChat community can note the benefits.

I think rules are a good idea, however, in the P&R section it gets pretty hot at times in there and i think thats ok as long as it's done with a bit of taste. It clearly states it's not for the thin skinned.

Even I got burned in there last week. Reminded me why I don't go there. I got on a user for the way he talked to me, but maybe those guys are use to it. Blows my mind. Not even intelligent arguments sometimes, just personal attacks.

You might want to check Off Topic/Other Off Topic as well and remind your Moderator and his buddies of the rule #5.

I think there are a lot of "informal exceptions" that regular users are aware of, but I think you are right to have a set of black and white rules that you can fall back on. For instance, there are pictures within the bikini thread that clearly violate the "no sexually explicit content" rule, yet because they're in the bikini thread, they are allowed. I'll be happy to post an example if needed ;)

I agree that we should not have those pictures posted all over the site, as well. I think it is a positive thing for threads like that to have their own place.

I for one think you need to be contacted if you are on the fine line of being banned.

espescialy if you are a paid subscriber.

I was contacted by rob a few months back and it was nice that he wanted me to tell him why am i acting like this you are upsetting people and the forum.

I recognized my fault only by his contact and stopped what i was doing.

I think its important to be given a chance everyone still makes mistakes and its nessasary to be told that your being disruptive and will be banned for not listening.

There will always be trolls and we will always want to get rid of the burtwood by attacking the person with wize remarks I think its fun to play detective and sniff out the bullshviter. Does this now mean that we cant do this?

one otherthing when hijacking a thread and attacking someone personally was tried to be justified in a seperate thread altogether to let people know they can make fun of eachother in a new thread that people can choose to venture into if they choose. Was that wrong to make a thread? I did not make that thread in the TRI STATE AREA by the way and particapated in it 4 or five times out of 3 hundred posts that were made. Was that wrong for someone to do ?

After all that person was trying to make a thread so that no one hijacks anymore....

I assume that you brought up this thread because you heard complaints about the bashing thread no?

Furthermore we have a great community here and rob you are doing a fantastic job I respect you and the empire you have built and will stand by your side on whatever rules you make just dont take all the fun out of it

members have to give credit card details and the moderator has the power to fine.

Use money raised for site maintenance and charity??

Perfect way to put money where mouth is........and would seive out the idiots in a flash

Rob, you said it best in the P&R poll and it should apply to rules of conduct in general. If you get in hot water for it at work, then it shouldn't be on FerrariChat either.

Even offtopic.com had to eventually impose rules, and it was *designed* to be the ultimate anarchy forum.
