172 in 996 in Germany 140 ish in a JP1 and an F3 120 sidways is a Clio Cup Race car. Most fun ..... 120 in a Clio Cup racer, watching direction of travel out the side window
I wasn't paying attention, but I caught myself doing 82 in the Mondial last week. I guess I'm the only one that tries to drive close to the speed limit...
One sunday early morning, three weeks ago, on the upper deck superhighway in Bangkok, 50+ km. stretch, pretty empty traffic, no police, I did near 160 mph with my 76, 308GTB trying to catch up with my friend's Porsche 911 turbo, 2001. The Porsche were doing somewhere near 180 mph. Same road, same time, different day with my Lotus Esprit S4, 184 mph, fifth gear at 7,500 rpm. and held my foot down to the floor for about five seconds then, the turbo gave out. Bang!!! big white smoke came out the back a long way......turned out I broke the seal in the turbo...I modified my Esprit to the point that the stock turbo can not tolerate such output.......................... It was the best thrill I had.............
Well, looking over shoulder, I can say that going over 150 in a Maranello is a piece of cake. But I have to say that the hairest ride I ever did was on a Triumph 650 motorcycle trying to catch a buddy of mine on a Honda 750. At close to a ton, the vibration distorts your vision so much that it is more sound and fury than seeing. At somewhere over a ton, your vision starts settling out to where you can start making sense of the blurred shapes dancing in front of your eyes. Beyond that, you just tuck your head in and close your eyes. Dale, who has made it from being young and stupid to old and stupid.
Well I have been 150ish on a 1975 Kawasaki 900, 1974 Honda CBX, 2000 Kawasaki ZRX1100, 1984 Porsche 930, 1986 Porsche 930, 1971 DeTomaso Pantera, 1987 Mercedes Benz 500SEC AMG, 1964 Jaguar XKE Roadster, and I could go on and on, because I used to do a lot of high performance tuning and had to drive my work, but the most ballsy thing I ever did was drive from Dallas, Texas to Trenton, New Jersey in 12 hours in a 1982 Cadillac Sedan De Ville with a 350 HP Olds 350cu inch motor. That was over 100 MPH average for over 1200 miles. I was the only driver and I had to stop for gas every 300 miles. When I was on open road, I held it at 140 mph. I had my wife, brother, and two golden retrievers with me. An interesting side story. While doing 120 MPH in Virginia at 3:00 am, I got radared by a rolling trooper. I ran the car to about 150, and then took the first exit. I woke my passengers up and told them to leash the dogs. I pulled into a gas station and we all jumped out and started walking the dogs like nothing was going on. The trooper flew by the station without a glance. A couple of minutes later, he flew by in the other direction. Then he came back driving slow and staring at us, but he just drove on.
i also been 110ish in a g300 in germany in broad-daylight with loads of cars around it was a real laugh.
64 mph + Chevy Sprint 3cyl Engine was maxed out !! (tried to avoid car fight with old man in a V8 Ford) ******* should have picked on someone his own size. 142 mph + 1990 Corvette when it was new. (February 1990) Stupid to run in the country. - Don't ever do that. That "free" BBq sandwich was delicious. (Between Wilmer and Ferris, Texas) What a speed trap. The road in the middle of nowhere is so big and smooth, that you could land a C-5 Galaxy on it. Guess why ? $$$ 160 mph (somewhere) in a 1988 Countach QV. Italian gauges have been known to lie. A beautiful fun brick !!! 180 mph indicated 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa (unrestricted model) it appeared a fork in the road was coming up. - It was a wise choice to slow up. 150 mph + 1994 Diablo SE 30 I only have had it about four/five months. No room to stretch her legs ?
Since there are posts of other cars I will post mine... 172mph 1997 993C2S 162mph 1993 300ZX TT 133mph on a modified Tic Tac (white Mazda Miata with a greedy turbo and home made intercooler setup) 115mph 1988 Mazda 323 (ah those college years )
Hi guys, 245 km/h in a 308GTB (passenger) 268 km/h in a Porsche 996C4 (passenger) An indicated 290 km/h on the back of a 2002 yamaha R1,nearly shat myself.I won't be doing that again, not on the back anyway Fastest i've ever driven, was my friends BMW M Coupe at 230km/h,still had plenty left. Marco
175 mph in a 550 Maranello on a long strait wide 2 lane not far from the GM plant in Ft. Wayne. Scary fast, and I am fearless!
Well it wasn't exactly my own Ferrari, just a rental 360 Modena. We hit 153 mph on I-15 on the way back to drop it off just before midnight. I cannot resist an open road....thank god it was unpatrolled! No radar in the rental!
Was in a friends 360 f1 a couple of years back and we hit the rev limiter in 6th gear, the speedo was showing 199mph at the time.
145 (at redline) in a 1986 Mercedes 300E 139 in a '00 Celica GT 150+ (past speedo) in my '84 S-10 pickup 92 in an old Kia Sephia 160 in a C3 corvette with a 540 merlin BB with dual (yes dual) blowers. made 1400hp on the dyno, obviously had a lot more than 160 in it. and my record was 201mph (unofficial since speedos are off at that high of speed) in a RUF Porsche 996 turbo on the Gumball rally. I wasn't driving though.
mods??!! please correct me if i am wrong but im about 99% sure a stock 360 wont hit 199mph. then again, at that speed, speedos tend to be wayy off
202 mph in my F40, flat out in Germany 3 or 4 times 199 mph with a Viper GTS/R at le Mans....twice every lap, always the same max. speed before the first chicane and towards Indianapolis (4 races, so maybe some 460 times + practice!) 185 mph with my 550 Maranello 185 with a 360 GTC at Le Mans (also every lap) 180 with a McLaren F1 at Paul Ricard back straight 180+ with my 456GT
Hi, Mike. I am guessing you were on I-469 on the stretch between the GM plant and the Highway 1 exit....am I right?? I am from Fort Wayne as well and have heard about your collection. It would be great to meet up some time if you are up for it. Have a great day.
My personal bests are as follows: 176 mph (Porsche Carrera 4) 170 mph (Ferrari 348ts) 162 mph (Lamborghini Diablo SV) 162 mph (Acura NSX) Several more above 150 mph....but that would take a while to type out.
