I've known our local FCA chairperson for several months, and we're both avid 348 fans. Our cars have chased one another around the North Carolina countryside all summer and in many respects, they're like "two peas in a pod".

So... last Friday we both had the opportunity to drive the Grand Course (4.2 miles) at Virginia International Raceway for the day. Despite some initial difficulties getting my car properly "tech'd", and an clandestine visit to a local farm-tractor repair shop (for some non-FNA approved exhaust welds), we both arrived at VIR ready to run.

Blah blah blah... we're both waiting for our run group to start and were happily chatting about Ferrari's, the local club, etc. etc.

Bob: "Yup, there are small differences between our cars"
Dan: "Yeah, like the antenna. Or how about my this little trim piece?"
    Bob: "When was yours built?"
    Dan: "Mine's a July 1990 build"
Bob: "Hey, cool. Mine too. What's your serial number?"
Dan: "No idea... let me look. Oh, it's 86426"
    Bob: "Your kidding, right?"
Dan: "Dude, I'm reading the plate right now... it's 86426"
    Bob: "Well....

Bob: "Mine is 86427 !" Our cars are consecutive numbered 348's. If they weren't directly in line at the factory, they were DARN close!"

Yes, that's right. After a long summer of driving these 348's alongside one another, we finally discovered they are truly soulmates. Consecutive VIN's... in the same state, in the same remote corner of Virgina, on the track at the same time.

    How cool is that?

Check out the pics, plus some other track photos.

Have you found ANY detail differences between your cars? If so, that would validate the adage that "no two Ferraris are exactly alike".

Sorry, I *have* to. :) I can understand protecting the paint, but why would you have the front air grill blocked off too?

    Hahahah..... Y'all make me laugh.

Never seen a real live 348 up close, huh? That front grill is totally cosmetic. Behind the grill is all solid plastic, save a small hole for the towing eye. The only intake on the front of a 348 is the A/C inlet on the passenger side.

Door strakes hold the radiators while the C-pillar (butress) vents draw air.

    Thats awesome Daniel!
Having a friend with the same Ferrari as you and living in the same region is great!
And knowing that both cars are consecutive numbered 348's, thats fantastic!

On a similar note, the team down here in melbourne bought two 360C from europe that had raced against each other. There was no PPI done and the cars were sent directly to Michelotto for turning into N-GT cars..at the same time.

They were assigned sequential Michelotto build no.s (12 and 13) and were also only one car apart from being sequential chassis no.s.....

They came to Australia and raced against/with each other again as N-GT

    My how they've grown together...

How sweet, I think I might cry now........

I thought there were also small intakes for front-brake cooling behind either end of the front grille?

Great story... That's gotta be one of the great things about owning "limited production" vehicles - there's a much better chance of something like this happening!
