    Evening Robert ...

Yes to all of the above. FL355 (Fchatter) took a trial one for a show he was putting his car in and his judgement is a few replies back.

The hard part was the illumination .. but yes it works just fine .. I had to get two coats of 'ink' on the piece to prevent the lights showing through. Even the green 'glow' of the numbers is retained.

Anyone can oput this thing on. I'll put a couple of notes in the envelopes on 'how to' but it is simple. Takes about 30 minutes being careful.

I've actually got a UK bank account with the Midland ... HSBC.

I also have Paypal under the e.mail [email protected]. UK check or paypal .. no big deal.

I should have them by Tues. next and in the post by Wednesday. Postage is pennies.

    Best regards,

    Pete

    Hey Pete!

Thought about you last weekend. I drove 36 hours to go to Scottsdale to pick up a trailer for my car. Man, I-10 through TX is a long one! Always love a road trip.

Anyway, for those of you who are concerned with the install, not to worry. When the new one arrives I'll do a step by step write up with pix of every step and procedure. A 12 year old could do it, literally.

I'll start a new thread and post the link here. That way you can bookmark it until your ready.

If you have sticky dash, this would be a good time to remedy that as well. I posted comments here about removal above. Just FYI - If you dash is sticky the removal is easier. If it's in good condition it's harder to remove..so for those of you on the fence, wait till it starts to get sticky before doing it.

Pete - Keep the 10 big ones... Also could you find out from the printer if we do a second batch can he do it again now that he has a "master" and what his minimum order would be? I may want to get 5 or 10 more for some local people who are not FChatters.

    Morning from gloomy Houston .....

I can ask the guy about more copies. The thing that bangs the price up for 1 or a 100 is the 'dye' stage they put the silkscreen through .. it's $128 whether you buy 1 or 100.

Dave Helms has picked up ~ 20 of these so there will be some around for purchase later. Also, my frugality tells me if I can go DIRECTLY to the silk screen people the cost may be much much less than the current $40 or so. Remember the original printer guy couldn't do it ... the transparency thing .. and he outsourced to someone in Kansas .. why Kansas ?? .. haven't a clue. Maybe it can't be done locally here in Houston ?

Yep the I-10 is something else ..... they're 'improving' the bit through Houston .. gonna take about 10 years to complete.

    More later.

Gloomy? It was sunny and great when I was there. Yeah, a little construction around IAH...the pitts was BPT... Had to drive by the "brail system"... That's when you listen for the trailer wheels hitting the lane reflectors so you have just enough clearance not to hit the cement barriers...really narrow lanes with pot holes...

Nice transition from green and hills in the east to desert-like in the west. Took a break in ELP at Petterson's and almost came home with a hog..still might go back and pick one up..biggest harley dealer in the world.

OK no more Off Topic... give us a heads up when to look for the mail man.

    Ladies & Gents,

The bits are on their way from Kansas. Printer should have them by Tuesday/Wednesday and I'll put them straight in the post.

Here is a 'how to do it' note.

    Tools
Phillips screw driver, Stanley blade (razor blade thing), Sharpie green pen and Sharpie black pen (permanent markers).

    Time
    20 – 40 minutes.

Step 1: Open the ashtray and simply lift out the coin holder (no screws).

Step 2: Look down where the coin holder was, and there will be 1 small Phillips screw.

Step 3: Unscrew the Phillips screw.

Step 4: Everything now lifts out. All the pieces are simply interlocked.

Step 5: Disconnect the wiring to the switches etc on the unit.

Step 6: Take the AC unit, and using the Stanley Blade, cut around the outside lip of the AC unit. This will separate the top ‘bad’ piece from the rest. Essentially, you’re ‘scalping’ the bad piece off the unit. Use a flat blade to ease off the bad piece. See Picture 1.

Step 7: Reassemble everything in reverse order, and put back in car. Picture 2.

Step 8: Turn the lights on. Take the black Sharpie pen and put lots of small dots over where the bulbs are. This helps diffuse the light. Without the Sharpie treatment, there are very tiny bright spots behind the plastic … you really had to look … but the black Sharpie treatment fixes this. See Picture 3.

Step 9: Peel back the paper from the Lexon piece, and take the green Sharpie and color the back of the decal numbers/signs. This is exactly how Ferrari did it. The picture below is the old piece from my car showing the Ferrari paint job. See Picture 4.

Step 10: Carefully take aim, and place the Lexon piece onto the unit. Make sure all the holes are centered and edges are parallel. You CAN take it off and try again.

    That’s about it. A $40 fix for a $1600 problem.

I accepted 30 of the 50 pieces today. I returned 20 because they were 'smeared' due to the double pass of printing.

I've got orders for 31, so what I'll do is send everyone at least 1 ... but someone who ordered 2 will get their second one in about 10 days.

IT COSTS ~ $8.50 TO CERTIFY THE DELIVERY. I'M ASSUMING THAT EVERYONE WOULD PREFER THE $10 COMING BACK AS CASH AND NOT TO BE SPENT ON POSTAGE... JUST TRUSTING THE GOOL OL' US POSTMAN NOT TO LOSE IT.

IF YOU WANT ME TO SPEND THE $8.50 ON CERTIFIED MAIL LET ME KNOW ASAP ... I'M GOING TO POST THEM ON THURSDAY MORNING.

DROP ME A NOTE TO [email protected] IF YOU WANT CERTIFIED.

    The end of a saga!

Apologies .. no progress. I did get a jpeg of the piece but it was an image of a distorted unit .. thus no good. If I can get a 'clean' image of a perfect top, then we could be in business.

Packaged everything up tonight and they'll be in the post tomorrow.

A couple of people who asked for 2 have only 1, with the other turning up in ~ 10 days.

To make things simple, I put a check in every envelope for a refund. I know several of you have said 'no' to the refund ... just tear the check up and I'll put it towards my Enzo (-: .... Thank you very very much for the gesture.

They should start turning up by Saturday maybe.

I tried some different ideas about darkening the green on the piece .. the green sharpie worked best .. just be careful and trace the decal only .. don't spread green sharpie ink over everything.

Off on my travels again tomorrow for a few days .... back to the middle east .. should be back home Nov 2nd.

    Hope you're all pleased.

    Very best regards,

    Pete

I got this message from someone who received the piece ....

    Pete,

I received the package today. Thanks for all of your efforts on this project.

Unfortunately, the quality of the part you sent is not acceptable to me. One of the hole cutouts has a chip in the edge and the numbers around the temp control knob cutout are not centered around the hole. And a couple of the holes don't look like they are truly round...slightly elliptical it seems to me?

I'm going to send this piece back to you. If your manufacturer can do a better job of cutting the holes and centering the graphics, I'd still like two pieces. If not, then I'm sure we'll be able to work out some form of a refund. I wouldn't want a full refund no matter what since you've put a ton of work into this project.

Again, thanks for all of your efforts.
    ***********************************************
    ***********************************************
    What can I say ....

I sent a note out on F Chat several weeks ago saying quality is a relative issue and considering what I personally started with, the examples I got were very acceptable to me. Samples were also sent to garages who service Ferrari and other F Chatters , and they also concurred with quality. One garage ordered 20 which took us over the 50 mark. I simply took the number of orders, asked the printer to give a price, paid for them all with my $ and waited to take delivery.

Refunds have ramifications ... it takes us under the 50 mark ... so we're back on the $49 level ... I signed ~ 30 checks giving everyone a refund making the cost $39.

I'll take a look at the bits being returned, and if they seem unreasonably lousy ... I don't know how the holes can be elliptical ..., I'll take them back to the printer ... or simply ask for the printer to add a couple to the outstanding 20 and replace them.

But understand .... I'm the go between that started this project for MYSELF. People came to me asking to share what I was doing.

If the general concensus is that the product is lousy ... not worth $39, then I'll have more ammo. to simply take them ALL back and say no thanks to the supplier. Remember, this is a $39 alternative to $1650 + tax.

Over the months I've posted many photos of the product to try and give everyone the most info. they could need in order to make an informative decision. I did my best, and I'll still try to keep people happy by resloving issues ... but I'm not in this for the business.

Agreed, I did not look at each of the 30 pieces as I signed the 30 checks and addressed the 30 envelopes and checked that each of the 30 envelopes had the appropriate check and # of pieces, and then rechecked the addresses. Maybe the piece being returned is very bad ... then I can try and get a replacement.

Maybe the printer will just give a refund .. then problem(s) solved

Apologies if this note seems somewhat curt .. currently in the precarious Middle East and anticipate flying out tonight.

    Pete

Refund? Good lord, you don't deserve that. A fill-up with premium gas costs more than Delaney's remanufactuered panels. Quite honestly, those of us in the Ferrari world pay FAR MORE MONEY for just about everything with FAR LESS QUALITY.

If people aren't satisfied with the quality, they're welcome to go visit a local FNA dealer and buy a new panel for untold sums of money.

You've put TONS of work into this. Some people are just amazing in what they'll ask for. Don't issue a refund.

    Pete,

First of all - you did excellent work for all of us... I personally could not have asked for more. Also - as a stand up guy that you are - you even gave back the $10 dollars - in which most of us told you to keep for doing 100% of the work.

Personally I spend thousands on things that are much less quality for my f-car - how about the belt change every 3 - 5 years - which cost 5K for a 12 dollar belt.

If anyone ask for a refund for a $39 dollar part - which is the least expensive thing that I have ever bought for my 355 - my keychain was $42 dollars - so I think this is a bargin. And frankly - I think it looks fine - I wish the entire area was made of the same material and graphics.

You gave plenty of indications on what you were creating for us - there should not be even a discussion of a refund. This really pisses me off - with all the work and coordination that you put in - frankly that was worth the $39 alone...

From 99% of us - thank you for doing this!

    Rich

I am a very, very particular person. The overlay arrived today and I was surprised at what a professional job you have done. This is an awesome solution for anyone who has a disgustingly bubbled AC overlay on their car currently. Thank you. I tore up the refund check- but thanks for offering.

Got it, looking forward to mounting it in the car. Have a few questions:

    1) I should use a green Sharpie to color the icons from the back of the panel?

    2) Anyone know what paint to use to refinish the rest of the console to match the finish on the A/C panel? I'm planning to get rid of all the sticky rubber in the cabin ASAP?

Thanks very much for the chance to get in on this deal.
