Is Ferrari the only one that gets really specific with the options on there cars...? Does it seem a little silly, comparitively...? i mean, don't get me wrong, i love some of the options, i think they're great... but does any other manufacturer do this...? i mean, could you imagine thumbing through the Auto Trader and finding a listing something like this:

FOR SALE: 1980 Buick Riviera; book (not books), tools and records; painted drums, fire extinguisher, 183,000 miles. Pampered, never driven hard or in the rain; concours-winning condition; Iacoca handling package, cloisonette Scuderia Buick badges, booted shifter, full pleather interior. Serious inquiries only.

The Ferrari options list is nothing compared to what Porsche offers for 911s. Page after page of options - there must be dozens!

Well Ferrari is a high end automobile. The options are a must to keep the customers satisfied. All those options does make the purchasing process extremely memorable.

    1. Back in the day, just about all Ferraris were custom builds, which made each car different.

    2. The ads you see are posted by individuals who are trying to show that they have a real car. A complete set of tools for a 275 GTB, for example, can run $10,000. The lack of books and records can easily knock another $10,000 to $30,000 off the price.

    3. On the newer cars, the options help sell the car, but they don't make the deal. Take shields as an example. This is a $1,500 option, I think, that you can't get back when you sell the car, but it does help sell the car faster.

    Hope this helps, Dale

In all honesty, it's hard to compete with "Hurst spoilers", "Fiorano Park-Assist Packages" & "Coachwork by Tonka"... i have to cheat and bring personal information into it... You're the man.
